Thank you Christine for this info. I had noticed, when looking at census, that LARNER seems to be more prolific than LARDNER. I will have to keep that in mind when searching for my ancestors. Morning Barbara Ihaven't yet come across a William in the LARDNER family, plenty of Edmund's, which is confusing. When I first read this message it crossed my mind that LARDNER and LARNER are more than likely the same name. I'm interested in LARNERs as I had a mystery Elizabeth LARNER living with some of my READ ancestors in Oxfordshire in a couple of Censuses and then found she was one of my READs married to a LARNER. So searching for LARNERs I found a lot in Thame. Also sometimes the name for that family in Thame is shown as LARDNER. Anyway, it might be another place to look and so might be of help. Hi Barbara Thanks very much for this. I haven't yet found a Joseph LARDNER as it was only this week that I discovered 'mine' went further back than I knew. Does that make sense? Having explored some of the London LARDNERS it took me back another generation to yet another Edmund born c 1745. This is the one I am looking for. I would be grateful to receive any leads that arise. He married Martha Brooks and I am also at a loss as to which family she comes from. William BROOKS married Elizabeth WADE 5 Jan 1829 Coggs, Oxfordshire (near Witney). Elizabeth is my 4 x great aunt. Hi Keith The first problem is I can find no trace of a Crane Close in Reading at any time There is a Crane Wharf and a Crane Court in Reading but no Close in 1871 , 1881 and 1891 The second problem is that a groom is highly unlikely to get a mention in any directory Is it not just possible he was visiting Reading when his wife gave birth ? Hello, I hope someone may be able to help my great grandfather WILLIAM CLARKE lived in READING around 1885 where his daughter Jane was born, in fact it was 19 CRANE CLOSE I doubt if it exists now..His occupation at that time was a groom..He was in Coventry in 1882 and moved back around 1886... It would be great if anyone can find him in the Reading directories or even someone who was listed as living at Crane Close at that time may be a clue..I have no idea why he would move from Coventry to Reading and then back again..as far as I know he had no family links in Reading..
