Hi Had missed the marriage index being issued Must get this My smallish Berkshire branch has expanded backwards somewhat after a couple of visits to the BRO Trouble is they often move one or two parishes along so this is just the thing Bob
Having ordered the Marriage Index I should have, at the same time, obtained the above CD. However I could not find one important detail on the site. What detail, of each individual, is contained on the CD? Is an age, if available, shown? Anne ~ many thanks for the pointer to this interesting website.... I've bookmarked & will keep an eye on it for updates etc. However, at the moment, I'm really keen to know if MIs survive at Swallowfield and, if so, whether anything has been transcribed or published. best Anne H. ----- Original Message ------------------------- From: "Anne Nicholls" <annenicholls@xtra.co.nz> To: "ath" <higham@clara.net>; <berkshire@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, March 15, 2011 5:35 AM Subject: Re: [BRK] Swallowfield churchyard Hi Anne On www.gravestonephotos.com .a site run by the Berkshire photographic people they have listed quite a few Lyfords.Gravestone photos are available on request. Some may belong to you. Yes, all details on the register are included on the Berkshire Burial CD - it is more than just an Index! Thank you Christine for this info. I had noticed, when looking at census, that LARNER seems to be more prolific than LARDNER. I will have to keep that in mind when searching for my ancestors. Morning Barbara Ihaven't yet come across a William in the LARDNER family, plenty of Edmund's, which is confusing. I will add this information to my ever increasing pile and see what I can do with it, further down the line. Maureen, Although it a record does not exist the following are interesting: Name: Martha Lardner Gender: Female Baptism/Christening Date: 16 Aug 1741 Baptism/Christening Place: ASTON TIRROLD,BERKSHIRE,ENGLAND Father's Name: William Lardner Mother's Name: Martha Indexing Project (Batch) Number: P01827-1 Name: William Lardner Gender: Male Baptism/Christening Date: 09 Nov 1747 Baptism/Christening Place: Aston-Tirrold, Berkshire, England Father's Name: William Lardner Mother's Name: Jane Indexing Project (Batch) Number: C01827-2 It would seem that the name (and LARNER) is connected with Aston Tirrold so worth exploring that parish further. Hallo, I can't really help with LARDNERs in Berkshire but seeing that Peter mentioned LARNER, I wondered if it might help to know that there are a lot of LARNERs in Thame, Oxfordshire. When I first read this message it crossed my mind that LARDNER and LARNER are more than likely the same name. I'm interested in LARNERs as I had a mystery Elizabeth LARNER living with some of my READ ancestors in Oxfordshire in a couple of Censuses and then found she was one of my READs married to a LARNER. So searching for LARNERs I found a lot in Thame. Also sometimes the name for that family in Thame is shown as LARDNER. Anyway, it might be another place to look and so might be of help. Hi Barbara Thanks very much for this. I haven't yet found a Joseph LARDNER as it was only this week that I discovered 'mine' went further back than I knew. Does that make sense? Having explored some of the London LARDNERS it took me back another generation to yet another Edmund born c 1745. This is the one I am looking for. I would be grateful to receive any leads that arise. Hi Keith The first problem is I can find no trace of a Crane Close in Reading at any time There is a Crane Wharf and a Crane Court in Reading but no Close in 1871 , 1881 and 1891 The second problem is that a groom is highly unlikely to get a mention in any directory Is it not just possible he was visiting Reading when his wife gave birth ? He could of course be working for someone but the addresses in Crane Wharf & Court are just houses by the looks of it not the type of houses that would have a groom Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) > Hello, > > I hope someone may be able to help my great grandfather WILLIAM CLARKE > lived in READING around 1885 where his daughter Jane was born, in fact it was > 19 CRANE CLOSE I doubt if it exists now..His occupation at that time was a > groom..He was in Coventry in 1882 and moved back around 1886... > > It would be great if anyone can find him in the Reading directories or even > someone who was listed as living at Crane Close at that time may be a > clue..I have no idea why he would move from Coventry to Reading and then back > again..as far as I know he had no family links in Reading.. > > If anyone can help it would be brilliant > > Best regards, > > Keith
Hello, I hope someone may be able to help my great grandfather WILLIAM CLARKE lived in READING around 1885 where his daughter Jane was born, in fact it was 19 CRANE CLOSE I doubt if it exists now..His occupation at that time was a groom..He was in Coventry in 1882 and moved back around 1886... It would be great if anyone can find him in the Reading directories or even someone who was listed as living at Crane Close at that time may be a clue..I have no idea why he would move from Coventry to Reading and then back again..as far as I know he had no family links in Reading.. If anyone can help it would be brilliant Best regards, Keith

Hi Has anyone transcribed, or gave access to, Newbury marriages prior to 1837? I am very interested in the surname STRATTON. Incidentally, have the PRs for Newbury been released to FamilySearch to enable same to be included in their "new" site?
