Derek Trinder the BerksFHS Chairman will be talking with Karen Kimberley about her family history between 11.00 & 12.00 on Ann Diamond's Berkshire Radio Programme. Karen and all her family were raised outside Berkshire and Karen was interested to know how Berkshire Family History Society could help her discover more about these people who had lead such interesting lives. Do listen, especially if you want to know how Berkshire FHS can help with ancestors who did not live or work in Berkshire. Jocie
Listers You might be interested to note that at 9.30am this coming Sunday morning (20 September 2009), Wendy Archer will talk family history on the Oxford local radio station "Jack FM". Wendy is Chairman of Oxfordshire FHS, and is also prominent in the Guild of One-Name Studies. She will discuss family history research in Oxfordshire and further afield, as well as looking ahead to the society's 2009/10 programme of events. Based on similar past broadcasts, I would expect Wendy to be on the air for maybe fifteen minutes. Those resident outside of the Oxford area can listen via the station's website :- _www.jackfm.co.uk_ (http://www.jackfm.co.uk/) Enjoy ! Hi I've just discovered a likely link to Reading. My gr-gr-grandmother Emily Lucy ROSE appears to have been born in Bicester in 1874, daughter of Joseph ROSE and Ellen TIMMS. According to the 1891 and 1901 censuses Joseph was born in Reading c. 1850 (though the 1871 shows his birthplace as 'Alindon' - which I assume to be Abingdon), however I can find no suitable birth record for him in the FreeBMD. Joseph appears to have been a peddler/hawker in his early years before moving to Bristol c1880 and becoming a 'Cutlery Grinder & Hardware Dealer'. Do any of these details ring any bells? Mike

>From Pall Mall Gazette ( London, England), Monday, October 13, 1873; Issue 2702. MARRIAGE KING - WILLIAMS - At St. James's, Piccadilly, Mr. W.W. KING, of Newbury, Berks. to Charlotte I., daughter of the late Mr. G. WILLIAMS, of Upper Lambourne, Berks. Oct. 8.
Hi! Isaac WHEELER and Ann/Jane DOWLIN (or DOWLING) married in Wokingham on 21 August 1774 before having children in Binfield, Berks between at least 1776 and 1791. (She is listed as Ann or Jane in different sources but appears to be the same person.) I am trying to work out where they were from and how old they were. Does anyone have access to the original parish record and - if so - could they take a look to see whether any ages or residences (otp, etc) are mentioned for either of them? I'd be very greatful for any help or suggestions! :) Therese.

Hazel, I noticed your HERBERT's and am going to repost a message I sent to the Oxfordshire List yesterday. Do any of those HERBERT's below look familiar? I'm looking for any information or connections to Grace HERBERT or HARBORD, born about 1750 who married Thomas DEE in 1771 in New Windsor, Berkshire. GraceDEE is listed as a witness to the marriage of Anne HARBORD or HERBERT and John BROWN by license in Chalgrove in 1780. John HARBORD was also a witness. Is Anne a younger sister of Grace? Neither of them are christened in Chalgrove, although there are two other Grace HERBERT's christened there -- one before Grace's time and one after -- making me think there is some family connection there. Grace HERBERT's daughter Jane DEE was born in New Windsor, but married Matthew WRIGHT in Chalgrove and raised her family there. John and Anne (HERBERT) BROWN had one daughter in Chalgrove in 1781 named Dennis. I found Denes' marriage on FreeBMD to James FAULKES or FAWKS Mar Qtr 1858 in the Thame District. They then had 5 children in Chalgrove. Thanks for ANY tidbits or clues or information . . .
