Hi Irene My guess would be Mirah Place As Brad says its more likely on Albert Rd than off it I haven't found it separately enumerated in 1881 Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) > Is anyone able to help please I can't make out the address for my 2 grt > g/p Charles and Elizabeth Francis > in 1872 looks like 5 ......... Unfortunately, I don't have access to the '71 census returns, so can't help you decipher the address. 3. Hi Clive Sorry I can't see the baptism for John circa 1807 But do you have Johns marriage in 1826 and baptisms for most of his children , also the 1841 all in Middlesex Martha b1826 Georgiana b1829 John c1830 Francis b1831 Susannah b1835 Diana b 1837 Emma b1839 The only baptism I can't see is Emma's , the others mentioned above are on Ancestry I suspect there is nothing new there but thought it worth a mention You don't say when Johns father died so I am unsure if its relevant but as they are in St Marylebone in 1831 at least it may be worth looking at the 1831 census which is one of the few that survives , as does the 1821 but John may not be there then Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) >I am looking for any information on John HARKNESS, particularly details of >his birth/baptism. 3. Hello Garry Your post regarding NZ theatre caught my eye. I am researching the family of my great-uncle, William John SAUNDERS (b. 1891 in Dublin) who travelled the world as a stage artist in the 1920s and 1930s. His stage name was PADDY DREW. I wonder if you know of any specific times performed in NZ or if there are any reviews of his performances. There are some videos of his performances online on the BBC website. His brother, Alfred William SAUNDERS (DFC) was an ex-RAF pilot who was killed in air crash at Te Awamutu in May 1930. I have newspaper reports of that incident. As this is off topic ... although he does have Berkshire* connections.... perhaps you could contact me offline if you have any information. *One of his antecedents, Edward Skeate White was mayor of Reading in 1777. 3. Hi Michael I agree I don't have any ancestors in New Zealand but the site has been very useful to me in tracking ship movements. If you have any mariners in the family and you know the name of the ship on which they are serving then the port arrivals will give you the date the ship arrived and the name of its master You would most likely find mentions of British troops arriving in NZ too. It also covers many stories from Britain although they don't usually appear until at least five or six months later. I'm researching an ancestor with a theatrical background and have even found useful articles about the theatre where he worked appearing in some of the NZ newspapers. regards MOIRA ----- Original Message ----- From: <MICHAELCOOMBER@aol.com> To: <BERKSHIRE@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, May 04, 2010 10:17 PM Subject: [BRK] New Zealand Newspaper Archives > > This site, giving free access to search & read some of the older > newspapers, from New Zealand, may be of interest to listers. > _http://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/cgi-bin/paperspast_ > (http://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/cgi-bin/paperspast) > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > BERKSHIRE-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the > quotes in the subject and the body of the message -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- No virus found in this incoming message. 3. Roy The Uffington transcript on the Oxfordshire FHS CD (OXF-FAR01) has the following entry: 1818 Jan 15 RAFFE Mary, 28 (in different handwriting it says RALPH) I suspect that answers your enquiry. There is also a baptism in 1817: 1817 Feb 16 RALPH Ann d Mary Anne, soldier's wife, Uffington And this burial: 1817 May 14 RALPH Ann 5 mths It makes me wonder if Mary died of complications from childbirth. If it could be the same family, then it gives you the husband's occupation.
