    3. Den, Sorry, in my first post I wrongly assumed you were after David junior. Having checked the Baptism index again I can confirm (for David senior) Nivard's info about birth (well baptism): BURCH, David Parents: Richard & Deborah, Baptised: 27 Feb 1791, Highclere Notes: adm, of East Woodhay The Marriage index only has one marriage that matches (the IGI has the same data): David Burch/Elizabeth Hooker married at Warnford 11 October 1814. Regards Peter Hi Den Your David BIRCH or BURCH born circa 1791 was first married to an Elizabeth and had several children Elizabeth appears to have passed away by 1841 but could be visiting elsewhere An Ancestry tree shows Elizabeth passing away in 1835 but there is no source and may be a guess due to the last childs birth In 1841 Name: David Burch Age: 50 Estimated birth year: abt 1791 Gender: Male Where born: Hampshire, England Civil Parish: Wield Hundred: Alton (Upper Half) County/Island: Hampshire Country: England Registration district: Alton Sub-registration district: Alton Neighbors: View others on page Household Members: Name Age David Burch 50 John Burch 15 Daniel Burch 12 Mary Burch 9 Eliza Burch 6 HO107; Piece 382; Book: 12; Civil Parish: Wield; County: Hampshire; Enumeration District: 13; Folio: 4; Page: 2; Line: 17; GSU roll: 288790. 3. Den, I assume that the census you are referring to is 1861 which does appear to have two entries for a David Birch, one born at EAST Woodhay and one born at Bishops Sutton. I don't have access to this census to look at the entries. However, the Hampshire baptism index only gives one (looking at BIRCH & BURCH), Bishops Sutton - the same as the IGI. Both of these sources confirm that: David BIRCH baptised at Bishops Sutton 7 Jul 1822, parents David & Elizabeth Their other offspring (from the IGI) are: John 1825 William 1827 Daniel 1829 Maryanne 1832 Eliza 1835 Regards Peter Hi All, Seasons Greetings to you all! I wonder whether anyone has any links to the Birch's from East Woodhay, which is on the Berkshire/Hampshire border! I have hit a dead-end, which has lasted for several years! My direct ancestor is David Birch who was according to the census born East Woodhay, moved to Bishops Sutton, before settling in Warnford and finally West Meon all in Hampshire. Hope and pray I might get a response, as I am at my wit's end. Best wishes, Den

    1. [BRK] LAWRENCE Line Migration from England to Australia in 1864
    2. Peter Ferreira
    3. Here is documentation of a migration to Australia of a LAWRENCE line, from Berkshire. Richard LAWRENCE was born in Bignol, baptized in Hilmarton, Witlshire, England, in 1803. In 1828, in Bishopstone, North Wilts, he married Martha CHURCH. From 1828 to the mid-1840s, Richard farmed in Betterton East Farm, in the parish of Ardington, Berkshire. Then he moved to farm 700 acres in Upper Farm, Farnborough, Berks. Richard died after the 1861 census. Richard and Martha had issue, including: Robert Church LAWRENCE, eighth known child of Richard and Martha Lawrence, born in Betterton in 1841, baptized in Ardington, Berks, 1841. Robert LAWRENCE, gentleman, migrated to Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, on the “True Briton” in Jan – March 1864. In 1866, Robert, a coachman, married Mary HARTY, widow, nee GOOLEY, at St. Mary’s Church, St. Kilda. By 1867, Robert was a police constable, in Bendigo, Victoria; later, he was a miner and then a watchman at the Great Extended Hustlers Mine, living in Bendigo. Robert, aged 79, died in Bendigo, in 1921 and he was buried in Bendigo cemetery. Robert and Mary had issue: a. Robert Phillip LAWRENCE, born 1868 in Sandhurst, Victoria, Australia. In 1887, at St. Killian’s Church, Bendigo, Victoria, Robert married Ellen NAUGHTON. Robert died in a riding accident in Adelong, N.S.W., in 1896 and was buried there. Robert and Ellen had issue: b. Martha LAWRENCE, born 1870 in St. Kilda suburb of Melbourne, Australia and died in1897, in Bendigo, Victoria. Martha married Alfred George BOWE in 1895. Probably no issue. I am seeking to make contact and to share LAWRENCE family history notes, with any relation or descendant of this family, all cousins of mine. Peter Ferreira Toronto, Canada.

Good luck regards MOIRA ----- Original Message ----- From: "Margaret Turner" <ctbg15870@blueyonder.co.uk> To: <BERKSHIRE@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, December 16, 2010 5:32 PM Subject: [BRK] Church Hill House > Hi new to the list and wondered if you could help me. > > > > After a few years l have found my Grt Grandfather WILLIAM HENRY ELLIOTT's > death, and have just received the death cert for him. 3. Hi new to the list and wondered if you could help me. After a few years l have found my Grt Grandfather WILLIAM HENRY ELLIOTT's death, and have just received the death cert for him. It states he died 16.3.1933 in Church Hill House Easthampstead . And was of Kiln Ride Wokingham. Sadly He died of senile decay, I have googled this and have come across a old school address ...Church Hill House. Wilson way Wokingham l presume this was some kind of home. Asylum perhaps. has anyone any info on this beautiful Big house. I have no more info from 1911 cen where they lived cold harbour, Wendover Bucks when some time after that l first found his widow CLARA nee MATHEWS remarrying a William Norton Bell in Wokingham 1940 and living in a place called Chandos, Kiln Ride, Wokingham. I thought this was her new husband's house but now it turns out to be My Grandfathers William ELLIOTT's. So what l am looking for are directories for kiln ride Wokingham from 1911 to try and find when he came to live there. He was a plate layer all his life so l presume because of the railway being close by to kiln Ride this is why he left Bucks. Some facts about my ELLIOTT family William Henry Elliott married Clara MATTHEWS 1892 Amersham Bucks where the majority of the Elliott resided. They had nine children. Elsie 1894 John Henry About 1895 John Henry1893 Lily Elina 1903 Harry Arthur 1907 Ernest Edgar 1899 My grandfather Alice Daisy 1900 Clara Kate1895 William James 1897. If any one has any ELLIOTT s in there family tree l would be very pleased to here from them. Kind regards Margaret

    3. Dear All, I am pleased to say that I am making progress with all the OxSIL surname updates that have been submitted over the past couple of months, and I should soon be up to date. To make it easier to track recent additions, the OxSIL page now features a link that will give you an alphabetical list of surnames added during the past 30 days. My apologies if you you have submitted surnames or revisions and they have still not been added. I'm getting there! Regards Paul Brazell http://www.oxsil.org.uk/

    3. There are no downloadable Berkshire wills on A2A - A2A carries catalogue entries only. I suspect it is Documentsonline where you have found wills in the past. Both are part of the National Archives site (www.nationalarchives.gov.uk). Documentsonline has the Archdiocesan wills probated through the Prerogative Court of Canterbury. Wiltshire Archives (http://www.wshc.eu/about-wshc/archives/209.html) have the Diocesan wills probated through the Bishop of Salisbury/Sarum's probate court. These can also be downloaded for a fee. Unfortunately neither have a will for the chap you mention. The Berkshire Record Office has the Archdeaconry wills - they shouldn't charge much to check their index or, indeed, to print off a copy if a will exists since they are readily available on film/fiche. If Abingdon is in a Peculiar (I don't think it is but ...) then the wills will probably be at the BRO or Wiltshire Archives. Of course most people didn't leave a will.
