    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. However, there are no other links or pieces of evidence out there relating to Jacob's origins, so I'd tend to call it "just enough" corroborating evidence. The only conflict I've ever found has been an non-sourced OneWorldTree listing that had his father as "Derrick Bennett". Derrick was the name of one of Jacob's sons who's age is mistakenly transcribed as 85 rather than 35 on one census, so I suspect that's how that researcher came to that conclusion. In Ashbridge, Jacob is said to have "had property" in Iowa. It's worth noting that, at the time, the only real Bennett presence in nascent Iowa were descendants of Jacob. Jacob is credited for practically founding Madison County (of "The Bridges of..." fame) and building up its infrastructure. Even today, there are still hundreds of Bennetts local to the Winterset, Iowa area, and the Bennett Cemetery in that county is _full_. The original log cabin built by Jacob and his son Andrew still stands in Winterset. I've got some pictures of it, here: http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=andrew and bennett&w=93723338@N00 Bernice Gosden, who posted her connection to Isaac Bennett on OneWorldTree, mentions something interesting: "Issac and his brother William were sons of an Issac Bennett (grandfather who returned to England) who is said to have come from England, but my family were always told that we, the Bennetts, were Irish." That's extremely coincidental: The Jacob Bennett family members that I know all claim Irish heritage, without any proof (part of the reason why this connection is so important).
