Surnames: Bennett Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/BRD.2ACEB/4607 Message Board Post: Looking for recent family information on George A. Bennett from 7 Bennett Street, in South-Portland Maine. First Lieutenant Bennett was a Navigator on a C-47 Skytrain in World War Two. On September 23rd 1944 his transport plane (number 42-101007 nicknamed "Buzz Job Mike") was on a glider drop mission with a stick of airbornes of the 82nd Airborne Division, on its way to Nijmegen in Holland (LZ-O, Landingzone Overasselt). After being hit by anti-aircraft fire from the ground near Schijndel, the plane crashed near Boxtel in Holland. Two of five fellow crewmembers died in this crash, but Lt Bennet bailed out safely and became a prisoner of war (POW), together with the other two survivors. He returned home after the war. We would like to get in touch with his family of today, to share some information and photos. The veterans of his squadron are interested as well. How can I find out his. Where are his siblings today. Thanks for helping. Bart Smeets in The Netherlands. BartSmeet! s1@hotmail.com. * * *
