She was born to Walter and Mildred Bennett in Danville, Ill. She began a career at Los Alamos National Laboratory in the fall of 1974 in procurement, shortly afterward moving into the traffic office. She remained in the traffic office as assistant manager in the late 1970s and traffic manager in the 1980s. Aside from her work at LANL, she was the first female and second out-of-town member of the Board of Directors for the Albuquerque Transportation Club. She was a longtime member of the DOE Contractors Transportation Management Association and a member of the Women's Diversity Council. She received both DOE and LANL commendations for her work as project lead in transporting one of the largest single-piece items in state history, a 690-ton generator from the Tennessee Valley Authority. She was a DOE certified traffic manager and was an invited speaker at the annual meeting of Nuclear Management Profe! ssionals in 2002. She is survived by her daughter, Meaghan; and great-cousin in New Mexico; her companion Don Gibbons; family members in Indiana; her Ya Ya Sisterhood; and a nation of friends who were all like family. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church in Los Alamos. Salazar Family of Block-Salazar Mortuary.
