Gordon Benson, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Halfway. Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park by Lemons Funeral Home. Mr. Bennett died at 4:25 a.m. Friday, Oct. 19, 2001, in Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock. He was born Nov. 20, 1947, in Plainview and married Leta Goree on April 9, 1971, in Halfway. Mr. Bennett graduated from Plainview High School in 1966. He served four years in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Blackfin. He worked for the Hamby Co. for six years and was co-owner of I.M.S. since 1976. Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Cassie Bennett of Plainview; two sons and daughters-in-law, Cody and Janna Bennett of Plainview and Aaron and Memory Bennett of Lubbock; his mother, Christine Bennett of Edmonson; one sister, Teresa Eagon of Woodard, Okla.; and two grandchildren, Andrew and Riley Bennett of Plainview. Pallbearers will be David Reeves, Mike Burleson, Bruce Sisk, Jerry Chambers, Joe Sherman and Terry McEachern. The family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society.
