    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Bennett, Gill, Brooks Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/BRD.2ACEB/4649.3.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Hi, Wayne ~ We last e-mailed several years ago. Good to see you are still at it! We share common ancestors - Stephen Brooks and Hannah Bennett Brooks. I work in the genealogy dept of our city library and was fooling around the other night. For fun, I did a HeritageQuest search for the Revolutionary War Records for Obadiah Gill, and I found his and his widow's pension applications. [HeritageQuest Online: Revolutionary War; Series: M805; Roll: 357; Image: 361; File: W19507/BLWT24616-160-55; 13 Pages.] Obadiah died at Brattleboro, VT on 25 May 1838. Obadiah's children are named at the end of the application, and an Anna Gill is one of them. His eldest child was Richard (b. 1792; of Hinsdale, NH), followed by Sophia, Martin (of Hinsdale, NH), Anna, George, Harvey, and Helen. Obadiah's widow was Anna Martin Gill. In her deposition, she claimed to have married Obadiah in November 1791 and was, in that year, a resident of Brattleboro, VT. But I am puzzled: Our Anna Gill, I believe, was born circa 1675. How could she be the daughter of the soldier, Obadiah Gill? Were there two Obadiah Gills? Also, by 1855, the daughter, Anna Gill, had become Anna Downs and signed the affidavit as a witness, with another brother, George Gill. I was under the impression that our Anna Gill Bennett died in Orwell, NY in 1834. Can you please help me and cite your sources? Thanks! Sincerely, Jan
