Author: ResearchBug Surnames: Bennett, Nye, Richard Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.bennett/9518/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am sincerely hoping someone will recognize some of these names, as I have hit a brick wall. I have in my possession an 1851 Family Bible with beautifully clear handwriting. This Bible was passed down to me, and had belonged to my gg grandmother, Sirinda (BENNETT) NYE. It says "John NYE and Sirinda BENNETT married November 13, 1845." According to the 1850 Census, they were by that time living in Liberty, Crawford Co., Ohio next to John Nye's parents, John and Christina (Bordner) Nye and John's brother, Philip Nye. John NYE was born 22 Aug 1818 in PA and is decended from Johan Adam Neu who arrived in the U.S. in 1749. . But WHO was Sirinda BENNETT? Was Sirinda a nickname? The 1850 census gives her name (incorrectly) as "Selinda." But who were her parents or family?? BENNETT's of OHIO? Spelled BENET, maybe? Does anyone know this family? John and Sirinda (BENNETT) NYE's children were: as follows and I believe all of them were born in Ohio: William Nye b. 06 Nov 1846 d. 22 Dec 1924 Lucyann Nye b. 02 Jul 1848 d. 22 Nov 1848 Henry Nye b. 30 Oct 1849 d. 21 Nov 1927 Samuel Nye b. 30 Jul 1851 d. 18 Apr 1928 David Nye b. 08 Mar 1854 d. 24 Nov 1864 Franklin Nye b. 25 Feb 1856 d. 08 Feb 1941 John Nye b. 25 Feb 1858 d. 15 May 1930 Laura Nye b. 12 Oct 1860 d. 16 Mar 1938 married Samuel Richard (these are my great-grandparents) Sally(Sadie)Nye b. 06 Nov 1862 d. 20 Aug 1935 married Fred Jewell Sirinda Bennett Nye (wife) died Nov 1864, no birthdate given. I believe John NYE may have married again. John Nye (husband) d. 10 Oct 1895 I am fairly sure the family lived in OH, and later on in Michigan. If anyone has any information on the parents of Sirinda BENNETT NYE or knows anything about the children, please contact me. Sirinda BENNETT has been my "mystery woman" for a long time! THANK YOU so much. My email is j3zf4yg"at"sbcglobal.net Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. She would only have been 15 years of age at the time - and she apparently died in 1848 in Braintree, Essex. I cannot find anything that proves this is or is not the same person.....any ideas? I have unsuccessfully researched for birth date of his mother, Mary Gaskell. Have you found that information yet? I am also looking for documentation of births of Randle and Fanny's children, the oldest is Thomas born 1840 (I have his birth certificate) and six other children. My brick wall is Alfred Mc. Bennett. He was born abt 1813 in NC and at some point moved to Marshall Co., TN where he was in the 1850 census. By 1860 he was in Dallas Co, MO where he died in 1875. I believe he could be a brother of Moses G. Bennett who also lived in Marshall Co, TN & Dallas Co., MO. Alfred was married at least two times, the last spouse being Mary M. Fuzzell who he married in 1851 in TN. I believe there is a family connection the Fox, Wollard and Hardison families of TN. Alfred's children were: Cynthia (married Nort Smith), Lucinda (married Peter Myers), Margaret (married William Morrow), Nancy D. (married Nathaniel Myers), Alfred Lovin (married Sarah Brooks) and James Jacob, (married Sarah McCray). After Alfred's death the widow and children moved to Texas and then to OK. Alfred had children by his first marriage that probably stayed in Marshall Co, TN they are Martha, Malinda, Franklin and Thomas. Does anyone have any information on this group of Bennetts? Author: sug53 Surnames: Bennett / Wezstein Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.bennett/9508/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello -- I recently found an old Bible that belonged to Peter and Diadamia Bennett. They had 13 children: Ellis, Marian, Ceclia, Nancy, Dan, Peter, J. M., Jammie, Hester, Eliza, Corak, Manveil and Mary. I believe Diadamia's maiden name may have been Wetzstein. There is handwritten information about the Bennett and Wetzstein families and I'd be happy to share the contents. I would especially like to see this Bible find its way home to the Bennett / Wetzstein family :-) The dates range from about 1827 through the death of Ellis D. Wetzstein, May 16, 1917 - age 23. There is no mention of location, but I found the Bennett family listed in the 1851 Census of Canada. I have read through so many posts and I have never seen a definite answer as to who his parents are. One post suggested that the Joseph Bennett that married Anna Grove may be the son of Joshua Bennett & Mary Brogan(Joshua being the son of Joseph Bennett & Rebecca Fincher). Also, Joseph Bennett that married Anna Mary Grove was said to have died abt 1813. But I have no birth dates for him. Is there anyone out there that has information on this line? You can also reach me at varrowood@hotmail.com Any help or info would be greatly appreciated. Thank You Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
