I am seeking the father of Silas Bennett born 1805 in Ohio County Kentucky; he married Matilda McCormick. They had at least one son (My great-great grandfather) Robert Henry Bennett Sr. born in 1829; he married a Lydia Herrin of Muhlenberg County and they were the parents of 15 children: Caroline, Elizabeth Bettie,Robert H., Erasmus,Silas,Bryant, Emily, Lewis, George, John, Annie, Hester, Alford, Roston and Edward. They owned farms inherited from who we have assumed was the father of Silas. I found Silas and his wife Matilda (listed as Mulattos)living in Dist. 1 Muhlenberg County in 1860. Living with them was a Ellen Murphy, age 18 from Ireland and a one year old child named Elizabeth Murphy born in Kentucky. Any information you might have will be helpful. Thank You in advance. He married Mary Cunningham in Canada around 1900. In the 1911 Canadian census, this family is living in Hungerford, Ontario. Ancestry.com has not helped much with this, and I was hoping somebody out there had this couple. I know of at least 3 children: Edward-Leo b. 1904, Raymond b. 1906 and Vincent b. 1909. Any clues? I know Edward was born in Leicestershire, UK in 1834 and died in Utah in 1915. Ann Cartwright was born in Ravenstone, Leicestershire in 1835 and died in Utah in 1899. They were married when Katie was 14 or 15 when she became with child. They were married in an Indian Ceremony, and later in a Church. As a child John and his brother William were in the middle of a battle where Jessie James rescued them and put them in a bunker. Both there parents were killed. An Indian by the name of John Drum raised both of the boys. So we are not sure who there parents are. I would very much like to find some more out about the Bennett family history.
