Have info on Viana Johnson Bennett and their children, but have hit a brick wall with any info on Thomas H. Bennett. Who were his parents, did he have any siblings, did he come to KY by himself or with his family. Was he married to another before Viana. He was 39 when he married Viana, so it is possible he was married before. Any one with any info on Thomas, please post here as I check this site very often. Thanks Joyce

This house (which I now live in) I believe was built by Charles Bennett in approx. 1850. The land he bought from Sarah Pettit in 1806. I have a map of Mannington dated 1876 that shows the house (in addition to another house that no longer exists). When Charles Bennett died (1884), the land and house were sold to James Pancoast. If anyone has any information on the Charles Bennett family from Salem County New Jersey that may help me in finding out the history of my house, I would appreciate it. Chris

William Harvey Johnson was b. 1874 in Clifty, White Co(?), TN. Minnie Bennett was b. 1881 in Bon Air, White Co, TN and d. April 26 1924 in Muhlenburg Co, KY. I haven't been able to find them on the censuses (when I have had the chance to look). I know they moved between KY and TN several times between 1899-1918. I say this because their children where born between the two states between those times. The first 3 kids were born in TN, and they moved back to KY somewhere between the 3rd and 4th kids (1902-1905). Between 1909-1912 they moved back to TN, but moved back before 1916. And of course, Minnie passed away in 1924. That left William with several minor children in his care (unless he was deceased by this time as well). Any help that anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Surnames: Bennett, Rushing, Rutter Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/BRD.2ACEB/4366 Message Board Post: My name is Scott Prieskop. I am trying to track down all the Bennetts from the Kentwood, La. and Osyka, Miss. area for my mother, Alice (Bennett) Prieskop's side of the family tree. Here's what we know so far: Her father is Tyrrell Everett "Buck" Bennett, born in 1895 and died in 1960, buried in Kentwood La. Her mother is Eula Mae Rushing, born in 1910 and died in 1979, buried in Kentwood. (We are also trying to track down the Rushing side of the family, Eula Mae's parents were Newie T. Rushing and Alice Varnado Rushing, from Osyka, Miss.) She has two brothers, Ernest and Terrell Bennett, still living near the Baker, La. area. Buck had many brothers and sisters, the ones Mom can recall are: Maude Isabella, Hiram Leonard, Jenny, Walter Clarence, Richard Kent, Amos, Ellis, and Suzy Bennett. She said there were 13 in all. Their parents are George Washington Bennett (born in 1844 and died in 1911, buried in Kentwood, La.); and his second wife, Emma Catherine Rutter (from Manchester England, born in 1862, and died sometime in the late 1940s, buried in Kentwood.) George Washington Bennett's first wife was Alphonsene Bernard, born in 1844 and died in 1879. She had seven children, William Johnson, John Davis, Sarah Estelle and Laura Emma Bennett. Alphonsene supposedly had triplets which died when they were born, but we're not sure. Here's a family story that Mom wants to know more about: Emma Catherine Rutter's mother (we don't know her name) was supposedly a domestic helper from England. Alphonsene must have been terminally ill, because Mom can recall Buck saying something about Emma wanting to marry George when Alphonsene died. She died in 1879, and George and Emma were soon married. Anyway, George Washington Bennett's father was Darius Johnson Bennett, born in 1822 in St. Tammany Parish, La. and his mother was Mary Rosetta Hayden (or Headen?). George had many brothers and sisters, too, the oldest being William T., then after George was John H., Mary Jane, Emily Elivia, Sarah P., and perhaps more. My aunt (married to my mother's brother Terrell Bennett) has hundreds of old pictures. There are some that we have identified as possibly being George Washington and Alphonsene Bernard Bennett, maybe his brother William T. Bennett, and one picture that just might possibly be Darius Johnson Bennett. There are many, many baby pictures, and pictures of school groups and church congregations, and some military pictures. Unfortunately, the history of most of these pictures has been lost, maybe there are surviving descendants of Darius and George Bennett who could help us identify some of them.
