    2. My Bennetts (at least William and Henry Harrison) lived at one time in Virginia -- later West Virginia. But they moved into North Carolina and Georgia before HHB settled in Chambers County, Alabama with his last wife (reportedly his fifth), who was my grandmother. Family lore has it that they moved from around Dublin, Georgia (Laurens/Wilkinson counties), but have never been able to prove this. Some of them at one time lived in Meriwether County, Georgia (near Warm Springs and LaGrange). Also, there were statements that we were part Cherokee -- and two of my Aunts on the Bennett side had definite Indian features (dark skin and hair, high cheek bones) but again none of this was ever proven. Alas! The search goes on! Don Williams Jacksonville, FL

    3. Ted, where were your BENNETTs before GA. Were they maybe South Carolina? My husband's mother was a Bennett and the name Reuben Bennett was a popular name in that family. I really haven't gotten that far back on that line, just what I could put together from her records and death certificates or obits. Thanks. Johnnie -----Original Message----- From: Ted D. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/BRD.2ACEB/4324.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Dian, This seems to be one of those collosal coindences in relationship names. My Sallie Bennett, ne.Register, was born in North Carolina 11 Sept 1785.She moved to SE Georgia with her husband John Bennett, and died there 11 Oct 1868. My Patterson line has been traced back to Savannah, Ga., thence to Camden County, Ga. Earliest progenitor on which I have any significant info is Nathaniel J. Patterson, born in 1787. I believe his father was a William Patterson. The Bennett Rev. Soldier in my direct line is Thomas Bennett, born in Surry County, Virginia, circa 1740. He migrated to N. Carolina, where he inlisted in the NC Contenental Line in May 1776 and was discharged in Nov 1778. This was the father of the aforementioned John Bennett. The Bennett family was established in the Jamestown area in 1621, owning thousands of acres. If there were any Yankees in our line, no one cared to "fess up"! Looks like we are at a dead end. Best of luck with youy search. Bob
