I found him on the 1880 census in Calhoun County, Mississippi, living with his daughter, Betty and son-in-law Jessie Griffin. It lists his wife's name as Jane, and he was born in 1814 in Kentucky. I'm not sure what is was used for in the early days, but by the 1950's it was kind of a drugstore/office supply store. In the 70's it was used as a photography/camera shop. It was always called Knowlton Bennett's back then. Now it houses attorney's offices. If you want more history on the building, you could ask the Urbana Free Library Archives (201 S. Race Street, Urbana, IL 61801) to look up info for you. They have files and pictures of old buildings and also may know more about the families (they have surname files as well.)
