Copyright 2003. All rights reserved. Steven J. Bennett 1964-2003 Steven J. Bennett, 38, of Sidney, Neb., died March 10 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff, Neb. He was born Aug. 22, 1964, in Sidney to Wilbur and Charlotte (Deiversdahl) Bennett. He attended public schools in Sidney. He worked at Phillips 66 in Sidney for several years before moving to Cheyenne, where he was a salesman at Advanced Auto. He later moved back to Sidney to live with his mother until the time of his death. He is survived by his mother, Charlotte Bennett of Sidney; a sister, Peggy Thompson of Overland Park, Kan.; two brothers, Tom Bennett of Kearney, Neb., and Bob Bennett of Grand Island, Neb.; six nephews; and a great-niece. He was preceded in death by his father, Wilbur; a sister, Elsie Bennett; his paternal grandparents; and several aunts and uncles. Services will be 10 a.m. today at the Four Square Church in Sidney with Pastor Jerry Skinner officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. A William Benet was recorded in the year 1208 and a Roburtus Filius benite is recorded in Surrey in 1301. Bennett is a patronymic name meaning ' son of bennett' which comes from the latin 'Benedictus' meaning blessed. Family Motto " to serve the king with right good will'' #2 I have a bit of information on the origins of the family name.The ancient family name appears in very early documents; a William Benet was recorded in the year 1208, and a Robertus filius Benite is recorded in Surrey in 1301.Bennet comes from "son of Bennett", meaning blessed. This was a very popular 12th century name. It is the family name of the Earls of Tankerville. The ancient family motto was DE BON VOULOIR SERVIR LE ROY (French) - 'to serve the King with right good will" #3 This is off our coat of arms.... Don't know how generalize it is to other names but it sounded good to me. I am looking for a Gibson who died around that time. His son was John and he lived in the Franklin co., Malone, cornwall, and st.Agnes Dundee area. This John was about ten when his father died in 1846-49 time period. The only problem is that his death certificate shows his father as Napoleon. Probably went by Peter.
