Surnames: Bennett, Bennet Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/BRD.2ACEB/6111 Message Board Post: I am still looking for information on the parentage of Jacob Bennett born 1812 in the Town of Thompson, Sullivan County, NY. He married Julia Charlotte Barnes 12/28/1834. They had 15 children: Julianna b. 1835 d. 1917 George b. 1836 d. 1895 Lenore b. 1838 d. bef 1860 Issac b. 1839 d 1839 Sanford b. 1840 d. 1916 ***Joel***my great great grandfather b. 1842 d. 1926 Mary b. 1844 d.1925 Martha b. 1846 Phebe b. 1848 d. 1935 Louisa b. 1850 John b. 1853 d. 1854 William b. 1855 d. 1938 Margaret b.1856 Charles b. 1859 Stephen b. 1861 b. 1939 It has been said that part of the children were born in Sullivan County, NY and the rest in Ulster, however going by the censuses it looks to me like they were ALL born in Ulster County, probably all in the Town of Wawarsing -- very likely in Lackawack. The post office listed on the censuses is Napanoch. I think that Jacob's father may have been Hiram Bennett. I found a Hiram Bennett in the 1820 census in the Town of Thompson, Sullivan County, NY. He had a son listed who would be the right age to be Jacob. The only other Bennett in the 1820 census in Sullivan County was a Thomas who was listed as living in the Town of Washington(?) --however he was very old and had no children living in his household. Jacob's father may have been born in CT (as stated by Jacob in the 1880 census) IF Hiram is his father -- he may have been born in CT as he cannot be found in the NY census prior to 1820. If anybody has any info or ideas please email me. Thanks Sissy Ann Avery-Pigman [email protected]
