    3. I've "rescued" an old photograph of the L. I. BENNETT Family which was taken at the Foreman Studio in Buckhannon, West Virginia. The photograph was likely taken in the 1800's with a young Mother in her 20's and three small children ranging in age from 1 year to 6 years old at the time. I believe all three are boys, though I am not absolutely certain regarding the baby. Based on limited research I believe that this may be the family of Lafayette I. BENNETT of Buckhannon, WV. I was able to locate the family in both the 1900 and 1910 census records as follows: 1900 census of Buckhannon, WV: Lafayette I. BENNETT, age 31, born Aug 1868, married 9 years, born WV, parents born WV, a Farmer Elizabeth M. BENNETT, wife, age 27, born Aug 1872, married 9 years, 5 children/5 living, born NE, parents born NY Isaac M. BENNETT, son, age 8, born May 1892, born WV, at School Charles S. BENNETT, son, age 6, born Mar 1894, born WV, at School Orion E. BENNETT, son, age 4, born Apr 1896, born WV Mary E. BENNETT, dau, age 2, born Mar 1898, born WV Unnamed BENNETT, dau, age 2 months, born May 1900, born WV 1910 census of Buckhannon, WV: Lafayette I. A whole book was published on my Bennetts and the oldest one is a John Bennett. His oldest child was born in 1682. The family also started a relationship with the Dodson family that has lasted to this day. The earliest location we have for him is North Farnham Parish, Richmond Co., VA. That is near the Chesapeake Bay and other early settlements. His son (John II) moved to what is now Fauquier Co., VA a little further north. John II was awarded a land grant for 424 acres of land on Sept. 1st, 1780 in what is now Pittsylvania County, VA (near the NC line and the modern day city of Danville) Twelve generations still own land in that area. Prior to 1728 NC was divided into only two counties Albemarle and Bath.Alvemarle was seperated into 6 precints Chowan,Perquimans,Currituck,pasquotank,Bertie and Edgecombe. Bath was divided into 7 precincts Bladen,Beaufort,Carteret,Craven,Hyde,New Hanover and Onslow. I had found records of my John Bennet and his wife Rose and 4 children coming into Perquimans and assumed that it was perquimans county and couldn't find them after 1730. All the counties changed in 1734,1741,1777 and so forth. I hope this helps you fellow researchers.

    3. Thanks. I have an ancestor that fought in the War of 1812. He was born in Cayuga/Cortland Co, NY in 1792, was married there in 1816, and was a member of a long time Cortland Co family. He went by the name of Loniel, often altered to Lionel.
