I'm looking for the parents and siblings of John Belcher, born 26 June 1794. He married Mary Monk 27 Jun 1815 in Russell Co., Virginia. I have a lead that says his father was Jesse Belcher and a Jessee B. Belcher shows up on the RCV personal property tax list from 1793 to 1810. It says wife's name is Elizabeth where he sold some Washington Co., land to William Markum. Researching Isham Belcher and Elizabeth Clay's children, I show several of their sons settling in the area and Isham has a son named Jesse. My problem is that it shows Jesse as born too late to be the father of my John. One source showed him born when his mother Elizabeth was more than 60 years old. Can anyone give a better birth date? I tried sending away to the office of vital records for his death certificate as he is listed on the RCV vital records 1877 death index. They say they have no record of his death in Russell Co. during the period 1876 to 1880. 1860 census shows him living in the Rosedale district of RCV. Could this be near a county boundary and he died and is buried in another county? I'm hoping someone can provide answers or suggest other, more fruitful, avenues of research. I think it's totally acceptable. People have different reasons for gathering this info, personally I'm doing it for fun but I think if someone wants "proof" they need to be willing to do the research themselves and not get mad at others who don't have the same goals they do. I could go on about people who send hate mail too, but that's beside the point. Yes, as I remember my Catherine DeWITT was b in NY acc to census. They were in Cincinnati area, OH and she married my Charles NEFF of the H Line. Yes, I am looking at a chart prepared by my Dad's cousin, Everett Rudolph NEFF of Topeka, KS. He did the research a number of years ago. Catherine DeWITT, b. 1812, pb. New York, D. ?, pd. Indiana. She married first Charles NEFF b. 1801, pb. Phila., PA, m. 1829?, d. 1846-1847?, pd. Cinti, OH. I am descended from their son, Civil War vet Rudolph NEFF and his wife Sarah Jane LOPERb. 1843, pb. Cinti OH, d.1932 pd. Firwood School District, Pierce Co., WA near Puyallup. Their daughter, Emma Frances NEFF m. John Culbert RANKIN II in Mitchell Co., KS, residing Glen Elder where my father, James Forrest RANKIN was b. 2 Feb. 1906; the family moved to WA state in 1910 to Pierce Co., WA, Puyallup area. Hi Nora, Yes,, the holidays are upon us, and the millenium thing, too. I'm not surprised that people are busy. I am less busy now than I was a few weeks ago. I had to take the Graduate Record Examination on Dec. 1st, and it was arduous. I did not make as high a score as I thought I would, but I can take it again in the future. It just turned my life upside down, and I neglected my email and genealogy pursuits. I still have not found any connections for my Phillip Green Belcher. Laura's contribution looked promising, and I have kept it. I am also pursuing the Trautwein side of my family--my dad's grandmother-- in addition to the Belchers. When the Hildreth Family Assn. puts its stuff online in a searchable database, I may find those connections all the way back to 1635. However, the Belcher connection is a real knot. I have some things on the Cotton side of the family, and hope someday to start on the Marshes. What a lot to do! And I have a lot of other reading to do! I hope you had a nice Thanksgiving.
