    2. Sylvia, Saw your letter to Nola and noticed that you have a Cotton family. Are any of these Cotton family members from Pendleton Co., Kentucky? I have a Cotton that married a Traylor around 1940. I also have a Mary R. Belcher b. 1815 d. 1900. The only thing I have on her is just what is here. This information taken from a tombstone that was in the Mire family cemetary. She could have been married to a John. I am thinking that her last name was probably Mire or Nunnery. This cemetary is in Pendleton Co., Ky. If anyone has a clue as to who Mary is, I would be so grateful. Nancy Bray

    3. Hi Nola--I saved your last message to me, and I keep meaning to answer you. I am busy writing a paper for Florida State University at the moment, and my attention is elsewhere. I have also been busy with the doctor's exams--I have very news--a good report--no re-occurence of you-know-what. My CA125 number was lower than last year's--"4". I've done a little with the Belchers and the Cottons, and when this paper is done, I will let you know what I have. Have a good day! Chat with you soon! 3. Has any body come across the name Belchy used as a variant spelling of Belcher. This name appears in parish records between 1700 and 1730's in Lisburn Co. Antrim Northern Ireland. Only the name The name Belshaw was used after this date to the present day. It is family tradition that the Belshaw's are Hugenots who came to Lisburn in the 1680's! Ay information on the name Belchy or Belshaw would be appreciated

    1. [BELCHER] BELCHER; Abbeville and Edgefield, SC
    2. Greetings Belcher researchers, Thanks to the help of Trudy I'm getting a sketchy understanding of a Belcher line which held substantial numbers of enslaved people in Abbeville Co, SC, but I'm hoping someone here may have traced the wills of these individuals and can tell me whether the disposition of enslaved people were mentioned in the will or estate inventory. Abbeville Co, SC - Info from Lowry Ware's compilation: 1820 - Washington Belcher held 22 enslaved people. 1830 - He held 38 people. 1840 - He held 62 people. W.W. Belcher held 7 and R.E. Belcher held 24. 1850 - William W. Belcher held 79 people and Robert E. Belcher held 140. My 1860 compilation: W.W. Belcher held 4 on the slave schedule, but was not found on the census. William W. Belcher held 30 enslaved people and was enumerated in Monterey, Abbeville Co, SC. Wm W. Belcher held 4 people and was enumerated in Harrisburg, Abbeville Co, SC. Was Washington Belcher listed in 1820 - 1840 the same Washington Belcher who was the father of William W (b. 1809), Robert Edmond (b. 1811 Edgefield, SC) and James M (b. 1813)? Does this Washington Belcher have a will? If so, in which county? Are R.E. and Robert E. and R. Edmond Belcher (listed in the 1848 will of Williamson NORWOOD as the widower of Norwood's deceased daughter Mary Ann) the same person? If so, how many children did they have? Is this the same person listed in Young's Abstracts of Abbeville Wills and Bonds in Box 123, pack 3620 which was filed in 1850? Anyone have answers to these or lists of enslaved people mentioned in dispositions? There are 4 people researching various African American BELCHER lines out of Abbeville Co, SC who would appreciate help on this. In each case we seem to be stuck with children or a female head of household. If we are able to find inventories, this may help us determine possible connections based on who held ancestors and at what time period.
