Ms. Goodman I tried to email you privately about Brookie BELCHER and Hannibal BLANKENSHIP. The message came back. Please contact me privately. I have printed out the information and would like to mail it to you.
i have some infprmation that takes the belcher line back to 1615 for sure, records from DAR found by another family member I am trying to sort all lines out. I do know that William Thomas Belcher was one of the first of this line to come to the US, it seems he came over under the name of Thomas Belcher but I am still checking that info. If I can help with anything I will post all I have Lea
I would like to add a little to the message from SandraG627, I have tried to fill in several of the blanks in the family history from, not only Richard down thru my line (Benjamin Belcher Sr.b. 1749 d. ?, eighth child of Richard D. Belcher and Mary Obedience Clay) which migrated to Patrick County, VA (PCVA) in the mid to late 1700's, but the 8 or so generations that were before Richard. I have picked this information up from several different sources including, of course, the internet and some of the few living relatives that are left in Patrick County. For my line, Richard Belcher starts the 9th generation. I am still working on the lineage from my Great Grandfather, Claiborne Wesley "Coon" Belcher and my Great Grandmother, Mary Alice "Allie" Hall, to present day. I expect to have this finished by the first of August as the Belcher/Vipperman Reunion is being held on July 30th. If anyone has anything to add to my line of Belcher's, please feel free as the only purpose that I have for doing this is to find my roots. Thanks. Generation 9: RICHARD BELCHER SR. 1710 VIRGINIA Richard D. Belcher, Sr, b. 1710, in Henrico County, VA. d. 1763 in Chesterfield County, VA. Married Mary Obedience Clay, b 1712 in 1730. Mary was the daughter of Henry Clay. In 1728 Richard was a witness of a land transaction: Benjamin Hopkins to Thomas Oliver. In 1836, Richard Belshar paid levy and clerk fees to the promise for Richard Belshar, the balance of 338 pounds of tobacco. On 26 Feb, 1753, Richard Belcher sold to William Thompson, 100 acres of land for 20 lbs., sterling, 2 tracts, one plantation I live on, 100 acres; and another plantation where William Tanner lately lived. Witnessed by John Nunnally, Michael Clay, and John Ward. Recorded on 5 April, 1753. In 1749, Richard Belcher was mentioned in Henry Clay's will. In 1754, Richard Belcher sold to Peter Blankenship Amelia County 100 acres bounded by Skinquarter, William Gates, Horsepen Branch and Belcher's old line. The Belcher Line was near the Chesterfield and Amelia County Lines. Both counties are sometimes used as the Belcher's residence...South of Skinquarter Road, 375 acres of land is granted to Richard Belcher in 1754. In 1767 Isham Belcher, son of Richard Belcher, sold the land of Richard Belcher, deceased. "William Clay, Executor". Inventory of Richard Belcher 16 July 1763. In 1759, James Bailey, Jr. bought 75 acres of land from Peter Daniel. This land is described as adjoining John Skelton's land on the South side of Skinquarter Road. This land was originally part of a patent of 375 acres granted to Richard Belcher in 1754 and was the first piece of land owned by the Bailey Family. "The Story of Richard Bailey: Journey to the Mountains", page 168-190. Many descendents of the Bailey family carry the Belcher Line. Richard Belcher and Mary Obedience Clay Belcher had eleven children: 1. Isham E. Belcher born 1732, Chesterfield Co., VA. d. Jan 1823, m. Elizabeth Clay, b. 1734, d. 1793. Daughter of Henry and Mary Clay on 2 Jun 1759 in Franklin County VA. . Isham and Elizabeth migrated from Chesterfield Co VA to Bedford County, which is now Franklin County, VA. In 1765, Isham Belcher sold the land of Richard Belcher Sr., deceased. Isham and Elizabeth Belcher had three children: a. Mary Sarah Belcher b. 1770, d. 1824 in Cabell County, VA. Married Isaiah Josiah Perdue, b. 1757 in Chesterfield County, VA d. Aug 1819, on 29 Jun 1788. Parents were William Perdue and Elizabeth (unknown). They had 10 children. b. Married Mary ?. After his father died in 1763, Richard must have inherited some land. In 1764, Richard sold 100 acres of this land to Thomas Moore. In 1820, Richard listed the following slaves in Amelia County, VA: 3 males, 10 years of age and under; 1 male 10-16 years; 2 males 16-26 years; 1 male 26-45 years; 1 male 45+: 2 females 10 and under; 2 females 10-16; 2 females 26-45; 1 female 45+. Elizabeth Anne Belcher, b. 1740, Chesterfield County, VA. d. 1820, Tazwell County VA. Married Richard Bailey, b. 1735 in Lancaster, England, d. 1818 in Franklin County, VA or Tazwell County, VA, at Tazwell Dale parish in Chesterfield, VA. Richard Bailey and Isham Belcher were among the group that migrated to Franklin County, VA. The exact date of the migration is unknown. Richard's father, James, wrote his will in February 1765. The following September, Richard sold his land in Chesterfield and migrated to Bedford County. The same records show Isham sold some land of Richard Belcher, deceased, and left for Franklin County VA. The earliest record of James Bailey was in Henrico County, VA, where he was named in John Nash's Sheriff's bond along with John and Richard Belcher. On 1 Nov 1760, Richard Bailey purchased 100 acres of land in the Skinquarter area of Chesterfield VA. In 1762, Richard Bailey's father wrote his will. In September 1765, Richard Bailey sold his 100 acres and left with his family for Franklin County VA. The Bailey and Belcher families were close and family genealogy is tied together at this point. Richard Bailey served in the Revolutionary War. He lived very close to John and Richard Belcher. Children of Richard Bailey and Elizabeth Ann Belcher Bailey: John P. Bailey; Richard Bailey, Jr., James Bailey, Chloe Bailey, Micajah Bailey, Reuben Bailey, Archibald Bailey, Sarah Mailey, Eli I. Bailey, and Henry Bailey. 4. I am searching for L.C. Belcher born Glassy Mountain, SC c 1875. Father was Henry Belcher & mother Sarah. L.C. could mean Loyal Canady or Loyal Kennedy or Loyal Canada or Lowell Canady. Apparently he went by all these names at some time or another. He married Fannie Trollinger in 1907 in Atlanta. Any information about himself or his parents or siblings would be helpful. Thank you. Hi listers I am new to this list as I have just found one of my ancestors has the surname BELCHER. Her name was Mary Ann May BELCHER and she was born abt 1880, she married Alfred TRACEY and, while in Canada, they had nine stillborn children. They moved to the UK and had four surviving children in Frances May (b 1922), Olive, Eli and William. If SKS has any information on this family that might help I would be eternally grateful. Best wishes Gerry Nash Birmingham UK ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com
