    3. Here is abstract of will of Richard Belcher: SMITH CO. WILL: 19 Oct. 1829. Pro Nov. l829. RICHARD BELSHAW. Sons ISAAC, SUTTON, THOMAS, JOHN. Daughters REBECCA ELLIS, wf of JAMES ELLIS; PRUDENCE ELLIS, wife of ROBERT ELLIS; DIL Taby BELSHAW, wf of ISAAC BELSHAW. 6 children by my last wife: Linsey, Martha, William, Ursly, Jacob, RICHARD. BELCHER/AMARILLA SWINNEY. Surety ROBT H. ELLIS I have original of will. Tabby is called daughter-in-law; very confusing. Neither wife was named in will. Since Richard Belcher married Ursley Hastin on 3 Jan. 1787 in Amelia Co., she was his first wife, not his second wife. I don't know name of 2nd wife. William Orange left will 1815, Smith Co., naming daughter Polly Belcher, but I don't know who Polly's husband was. I've found no deeds on which either wife signed. Lots of Belchers around. Richard's sale was recorded 21 April 1830, Smith Co. 3. Hi, I have nothing definite, but maybe a clue. 1850 Lawrence Co OH has several Belchers, the oldest being Jesse Belcher 80 bn Va. He is most likely the Jesse Belcher who was in early Russell Co, VA records. Others are: Freelove 26, Henry 70, Henry 30, William 50, William 29. Maybe someone on the list could enlighten us about these Belchers. I am also looking for a Belcher family to "attach to". My earliest proven Belcher is William Belcher bn 1830 Pike Co KY. He is in Russell/Wise Co VA records. After his death his family moved to Wayne Co WV which is just across the Ohio & Big Sandy Rivers from Lawrence Co OH and Lawrence Co KY. Hope this helps, Janeen Hall Reynolds At 04:58 AM 07/14/2000 -0400, you wrote: >Does anyone have any Andrew Belcher's???? > >If not Andrew Belcher, does anyone have Belcher's in or near Lawrence County, >KY? or Lawrence County, OH?.....that originally came from VA? > >Karen > >

    1. Richard Belcher
    2. Mary Talley sent me pages of the Carson book starting on pg 87 and at the top of that page is listed a short three lines that end stating it was recorded Feb 10,1830. It sounds like a will but other than what Mary Talley stated I don't know what Tn co but I would say start with Wilson then Warren and even check Smith as Richard G. died there . I believe if you can get page 86 of the Carson book it will list Richards place of death and the will. Barbara

There is at least two close to the same time frame that might be confused for each other. The Richard Belcher with Talley connection is also from the Carson line and there is a book called Our Carson and Kindred Families by Mary Frances McKee Crain,Goodlettsville Tn 1986. I have several pages of info from this book sent to me by Mary E. Talley of McMinnville Tn several years ago.quoting from page 87,it states in his will Richard mentions six children by my last wife. Lively,Martha,William,Ulsey,Jacob and Richard. Mary Talley says this Richard listed as a child is Richard G . Marriage records of Amelia co Va prove that Richard Belcher married Ulsey martin June 3,1787.(another recording says Ulsey Hastin) The other Richard is born Alabama or Tn. This Richard is is my 4th great grandfather and he was born 1823. He was married in Warren co Tn according to a widow app for civil war pension to Matilda Capshaw. They went to Pope co Ill and lived there about 9 years and then went ot Douglas co Mo. I believe it is possible that my Richard is a brother to Wm Carroll Belcher . I also believe that my Richard's family might have lived in DeKalb co Tn but I have not researched that area yet. Sorry I didn't see the info sooner about Richard. My computer was down two months while I moved. I would be glad to share this other Richard's info(or my Richard) if anyone is intrested. Give me a holler. Barbara Ennis Sisco

    3. Lea, I reread my posting and what I was thinking did not get into what I was typing. I said " . . . I can take this line back to Hugh Belcher . . .". What I MEANT or SHOULD HAVE SAID was, I have names that I can research to CONFIRM this line back to Hugh Belcher . . . I received a file from chapman @erols.com that showed this information: (Please note, I have NOT documented any of this, I always work backward, starting with the ancestor that I have already documented.) WILLIAM THOMAS BELCHER, b. 1615 in Warwickshire Co. Eng. as the son of HENRY BELCHER, b. 1575 in Warwickshire Co. Eng. Henry Belcher, b. 1575 son of WILLIAM BELCHER, b. 1534. William Belcher, b. 1534, son of EDMUND BELCHER, b. 1506. Edmund Belcher, b. 1506 in Guilbarough Eng. (Can't read my own writing, may be Guilborough Eng.) son of JOHN BELCHER, b. 1478. John Belcher, b. 1478 in Stafford Eng. son of HUGH BELCHER, b. 1450 Hugh Belcher, b. 1450; married Havis Belson, daughter of Thomas Belson. I just want to be as certain as possible, that my William C. Belcher is the son of the Moses Belcher shown in this lineage. Thought perhaps if I knew about his brothers, I might be able to find out something there. ANY help would be most appreciated. Judy Smith

    3. Hello, I've been getting more and more confused these last several days. This is the info i have. Is it correct??? Phoebe Belcher married Mitchell Clay. One of her daughters, Mary, was the second wife of Capt Ralph Stewart of the Revolution. I have it that Phoebe is the daughter of Ricahrd Belcher and Mary Obedience Clay. Now I'm wondering if Phoebe is the daughter of Francis Belcher and Phoebe Cabannis.??!! Also, this Mitchell Clay is the son of Wm Mitchell Clay and Anne Lewis. Correct? Also, if Phoebe is the daughter of Richard and Mary Obedience Clay Belcher, is Mary Obedience Clay related to the Mitchell Clay that her daughter, Phoebe, married. This is confusing, but I would like it cleared up so that I can begin more documentation. Thanks in advance for everything. Rose
