Fellow Behymer researchers: I have just posted a significant update to my web page. Point your browser to: http://members.home.net/johntippet/ Note that my old web page (http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/JohnDoeTippet/) will be deactivated within the next few days, so please update your bookmarks to the new URL. This update contains over 2,000 descendants from our common ancestor, Johan George Beckelhymer, Elder of the Church of the Brethern of Amwell, Hunterdon County, NJ. The most significant changes from the prior version are the following: (1) Added the descendants of Abraham and David (both sons of Henry, Sr and grandsons of Abraham, Sr). This represents the NC and GA branch of the family. The majority of the data comes from the following sources: a booklit by Dewey W Pickelsimer on the descendants of David, a booklit entitled: Historical Outline of the Patterson, Hamilton, Osteen and Pickelsimer Families written in Aug, 1922, on the descendants of Abraham, and research of Michael Motes. Thanks, Michael! (2) Completed entering tax list and land transaction data for most of the early VA Beckelhymers. Most of this data is documented in John Wayne and John Walter Picklesimer's book: The Picklesimers of Eastern Kentucky. I have cleaned up the entries also, so that now rather than having several entries for an individual residing in a certain place for different tax years, I now combine this data into one entry covering the time span involved. This makes the narrative easier to read. (3) On the previously posted version of my web site, several tags of information (which included some disclaimers, references, etc., unfortunately) were not included due to a simple mistake on my part of not checking a certain box in TMG when I generated the descendancy report. This has been corrected with this update. (4) I am now of the strong opinion that Abraham Adam and David Picklesimer, progenitors of the two main branches of Eastern Kentucky Pickleimers are, in fact, sons of John, Sr. My reasons are described on my web page, and are summarized in the following. (1) John, Sr is known to have had two sons, Abraham and David, the former from the Nauvoo Temple Baptism for the Dead records and the latter from Aaron Behymer's diary. (2) The son David had a close relationship with his brother, Samuel, b. 1763 (again per Aaron's diary). (3) Several Davids appear in the early VA records, however, only one is even remotely close in age to Samuel. This would be the David who married first, Elizabeth Smith and second, Sarah Prater. (4) Per John Wayne Picklesimer, family legend has held that Abraham Adam and David Picklesimer were brothers. (5) Jonathan Beckelhymer listed himself as the uncle of Smith Beckelhymer. Smith Beckelhymer could have been the son of David Beckelhymer and his first wife, Elizabeth Smith, named after his mother. (6) Jonathan did not have a brother, David, baptized by proxy in the Nauvoo Temple Baptisms for the Dead circa 1845 when he had his other close relatives baptized. This may indicate that David was still alive, or if dead, that Jonathan was not aware of that fact. Very little is known about this David, in fact, he apparently left his family by his second wife circa 1822 and nothing further was heard from him. Because of this change in my thinking, Abraham, Jr, who I had shown as the son of John, Sr, I now show as the son of Abraham, Sr, i.e., I have swapped Abraham Adam with Abraham, Jr. Abraham, Jr being a son of Abraham, Sr is also more likely based on the close association between Abraham, Jr and Abraham, Sr in the early VA land records. (5) Added the descendants of Henry (son of Jacob, Sr). This information comes courtesy of Deborah Haskett. Thanks, Deborah! (6) Added information on the descendants of Samuel B. Hymer (son of Daniel Behymer and grandson of Abraham, Sr). This information comes courtesy of Allan Hymer. Thanks, Allan! (7) Added some information on the descendants Sarah (Beckelhymer) Snidow, wife of Jacob Snidow and daughter of Jacob, Sr. This information comes from Debbie Sellers. Thanks, Debbie! (8) Added some information on the descendants of Margaret Ann Custer, daughter of Christian Custer and Elizabeth Beckelhymer, the latter the daughter of Joseph Beckelhymer, son of John, Sr. This information comes from Marie Owensby. Thanks, Marie! (9) Added some information on the descendants of Robert and Ann (Beckelhymer) Gordon. The latter was the daughter of John Beckelhymer and Jane Meeker and granddaughter of Nathaniel Behymer and Anna Magdalena Ferguson. This information comes from Hal Jennings. Thanks, Hal! (10) Added the birth records for Clermont County, OH Behymers born in the 1867 to 1884 timeframe. I have included individuals whose father or mother was a Behymer/Pickleheimer, etc. (11) Added many Fulton County, IL marriages for the descendants of Michael France - these from the on-line search engine for the IL State Archives. (12) Updated 1820, 1830 and 1840 census data. For 1820 I added John Gray of Clermont County, OH (likely Levi's wife, Ester France's second husband), and corrected a page number for Christian Custer and Peter Robb (was: p. 35, is: p. 36). For 1830 I added Wm Pickleheimer of Hamilton County, OH, Barbara Behymer of Clermont County, OH (John, Jr's wife which I had missed previously by mistake - thanks Bev for pointing this out!), John Grey of Clermont County, OH, and corrected a page number on John Behymer (was: p. 219, is: p. 220). For 1840 I added Jno Gray of Fulton County, IL and William Williamson of Fountain County, IN. (13) Do to several requests from members of this mailing list, I have now broken out the early Behymers whose parents are unknown into a separate linked page entitled "Missing Links"on my web site. Previously I had used Levi, son of John, Jr as their father as a placeholder. In spite of the disclaimer I gave to clarify why I had done it that way, the new version should be a little clearer and I hope less confusing. (14) Added Merle Saunder's and Cliff Trimble's roster entries to the page of Behymer Researchers and Genealogists. (15) Linked Merle Saunder's web page on Chapman Behymer to my web page. (16) Added the genealogy of another one of my families - the Cowperthwaite family (ironically also of Fulton County, IL). On my next web page update, I will be working on documenting the descendants of Jacob, Jr, son of Abraham, Sr as well as Nathaniel, Sr, son of John, Sr. I have quite a bit of data on the descendants of these two that I have yet to enter into my database. I welcome comments, corrections, additions, etc. on this endeavor. John Charles Tippet Johntippet@home.com
