    1. What's important

    3. This was written by a journalist in our local paper. Thought I'd like to share it....... After returning from a week of tent camping in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, we had a fresh view. Upon our return we noticed houses of such size and grandeur as to satisfy the vanity of a French king, all set side by side in former cornfields. Do we really need homes with all this space, all these garages, these exercise rooms, these great rooms, these vaulting foyers? Or these monstrous cars, RV's, vans, SUV's that rumble along our highways? And do we need to eat so much? I see people staggering out of restaurants, overfed and overweight. They have probaly consumed more in a single meal than whole families of disadvantaged people in the poorer parts of the world eat in a day. I don't suggest that we live in tents or cook over wood fires. But isn't there something to be said for the simple life in which we recogniize what is basic and what is important? A week in a tent beneath God's blue sky can tend to throw a rather penetrating light on what is important and what really doesn't matter. What really matters is to be able to breathe, to listen, to smell, to walk, to lice and to LOVE.
