Based on the info I found from the LDS index cards for Jonathan Beckelhymer's relatives, I am left with the following conclusion: In addition to Anna Beckett and Elizabeth Waggoner, there was at least one other sister. Jonathan mentions John Lower and Sarah Lower as nephew and niece. Thus, he had to have a sister who married a Lower. Now, John Lower's parents' were Peter and Magdalene Lower, per the biography from a McDonough County, IL atlas that is posted on my web page - http://ourworld,compuserve.com/homepages/JohnDoeTippet under Lower. Therefore, I conclude that Magdalene, was, in fact, Magdalene Beckelhymer, sister (or step-sister) to Jonathan and wife of Peter Lower. The next question is: who was Magdalene's mother: Sophia Slingluff, Anne (Trout? per Rick) or Elizabeth Rinker? Magdalene was likely born circa 1780 since her son, John Lower was born in the early 1800s, leading me to conclude that Elizabeth Rinker was the likely mother of Magdalene, in addition to which, they would be technically only step nephew and niece to Jonathan otherwise. Peter Lower drowned himself in a fit of insanity in the Ohio River per the Evert's History of Clermont County, OH. I believe he died young, and perhaps had only the two children, John and Sarah. Other than my direct ancestor, John, I find only one land transaction for Sarah (circa 1826) and no indication of any other siblings to these two. One thing that bothers me, however, is that the two Lower nephew and niece's are listed on the same index card as that for Sophia, Jonathan's step mother, leaving me wondering if Sophia may have been Magdalene's mother. Magdalene would have been in her late 40's, however, when she had John and Sarah, for this to fit - seems unlikely, but possible. I also conclude there may have been even one more sister, since Peggy Hough is mentioned by Jonathan as a niece. Does anyone know if Elizabeth Waggoner or Anne Beckett had a daughter named Peggy (Margaret)? If so, this could have been who Jonathan was refering to. If not, then perhaps there is yet one more sister still unaccounted for. Just some rambling thoughts. What do others think? John Charles Tippet JohnDoeTippet@csi.com
