Fellow Behymer researchers: One of the intriguing pieces missing from the Behymer puzzle is: who was the Elizabeth Beckelshymer who was enumerated in the 1820 census living in Goshen Twp, Clermont County, OH? She was born between 1775 and 1794. She had 2 sons and 1 daughter born 1810 to 1820 and 2 daughters born 1805 to 1810 . Also living in the household was a male born prior to 1775. The following theory occured to me. Might she not be the Elizabeth Smith who married David Beckelhymer/Picklesimer in Montgomery County, VA in 1794? David and Elizabeth Becklehamer were enumerated in the 1810 census in Campbell County, KY along with Elizabeth's father, Ebeneazer Smith - this information from John Wayne Picklesimer). Per the 1810 census, this Elizabeth was born between 1765 and 1784. She had two sons born between 1794 and 1800 and 3 daughters born between 1800 and 1810. From the births of her children she would likely have been born circa 1780. Note that the two census enumerations above are consistent in that they both contain 2 daughters born in the overlapping 1805 to 1810 timeframe. The older male in the household in 1820 could have been Elizabeth's father, Ebeneazer Smith, otherwise, he would have been listed as the head of household. Also enumerated in the 1820 census for Goshen Twp, Clermont County, OH (a few households away) is one William R Pickleshymer, born 1795 to 1804. His date of birth is also consistent with one of the sons enumerated for David and Elizabeth per the 1810 census. The David Beckelhymer/Picklesimer who married Elizabeth Smith is thought to have been the same David Picklesimer who later married Sarah (Betsy) Prater in Floyd County, KY in 1817 per John Wayne and John Walter Picklesimer in their book: The Picklesimers of Eastern Kentucky. The assumption was that David's first wife, Elizabeth Smith, had died prior to 1817. I wonder if the David who married Sarah Prater was a completely different David, instead? Just some rambling musings to generate some action on this list... John Charles Tippet johntippet@home.com
