I had thought it was in the "Clermont Co, OH 1980" page 97 and 98, but in rechecking, Ralph Behymer of Clermont Co, OH, only listed Leonidas' children..not who they were married to. I do not have a reference as to where James Garfield Sammons came from. As you know, Ralph was a descendent of Solomon & Mary (Webb) Behymer, and did his research in the years 1950-65. Sallye Gaye, Can you help me out a little. I have Emma Virgie Behymer, b: 18Jun1896 as the dau of Leonidas K. Behymer & Cora J. Hunt. I have that Emma married James Garfield Sammons - but I don't know the source for this and don't have a date or place. Is my information erroneous? On Townsley's. I have Andrew Lee Behymer, son of Solomon Behymer & Hester Ann Johns, married to Stella Townsley - but again I have no source, date or place. Is Stella related to the James who you have married Emma, dau of Leonidas? Thanking you in advance for your assistance in clarifying these relationships. Rob Thanks for the swift reply. I did as asked and printed the copy sent for future reference. I will be adding some of my claim to Behymer fame pretty soon. For now I will just say that my grandmother was Emma Behymer and her father was Leonidas Behymer. I can trace them in a direct line back to VA. Emma married James Townsley and his father was Nelson T. Townsley. I thinkhis mother was Rebecca Townsley but I am stopped there. Any information wouldbe appreciated. I love to flesh out the family and have quite a bit of information along that line. Thanks again and will be in touch. Gaye >>

    2. May I share this with you all? I received this from another genealogy website. I thought you might enjoy reading it. Unfortunately, I do not know the source or author, but it should strike a chord in all genealogists. We are people to whom the past is forever speaking. We listen to it because we cannot help ourselves, for the past speaks to us with many voices. Far out of that dark nowhere which is the time before we were born, men and women who were flesh of our flesh and bone of our bone went through fire and storm to break a path to the future. We are part of the future they died for; they are part of the past that brought the future. What they did--the lives they lived, the sacrifices they made, the stories they told, the songs they sang, and, finally, the deaths they died-- make up a part of our own experience. We cannot cut ourselves off from it. It is as real to us as something that happened last week. It is a basic part of our heritage as human beings. Deanna

    2. Roseanne, I was just passing on some information that I found on Harlin Elmo. I found an application for a birth certificate for him and he listed his father as Andrew Jackson Beckelheimer, age 28 at the time of the birth and his mother as Nannie Perkins, age 24 at the time of the birth. The birth date was listed as being December 2, 1902 and taking place in Lawrence County, Kentucky. The couple were living at Webbville, Kentucky at the time. Andrew Jackson was shown as being born in Magoffin County and Nannie in Lawrence County. Harlin Elmo was living at 2413 Collis Avenue, Huntington, W. Va. at the time of the application, February 20, 1945. Also, Webbville was shown as being in Lawrence County, Kentucky. John

    3. At Dulca's urging, I have posted an updated descendancy narrative of Johan George Beckelhymer to my web page today. Point your browser to: http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/JohnDoeTippet/ The main addition to this update is the inclusion of an additional generation (the 6th) from Johan George. There are now 847 individuals (460 Kbyte) included, so the page takes a while to load as you can understand. Note that I will not be adding any additional generations in the future, as that would likely include some as yet living individuals. In this update, I have entered the vast majority of the data I have on the descendants of Joel Behymer, most of this data coming courtesy of Sallye Gundy. Thanks Sal! In the future, I will be updating the web page periodically to include a lot of other data on the descendants of the brothers and sisters of Joel. Again, most of this data will come courtesy of Sallye. If you have any additions, corrections, etc., please let me know. John Charles Tippet JohnDoeTippet@csi.com

    3. for those who may not be aware, this is what list-owner Twila has had in her back yard for the past month... << Oregon Marks Day Ship Finally Sank .c The Associated Press WALDPORT, Ore. (AP) -- The sinking of the ship that ran aground off the Oregon coast has been declared ``Two-thirds of the New Carissa at the Bottom of the Ocean Day.'' Now attention turns to the other third, the stern, mired in the surf. ``The only thing more stubborn and uncooperative than Mother Nature was the New Carissa herself,'' Gov. John Kitzhaber wrote in his declaration Thursday. ``We burned her, we burned her again, then we broke her in half, dragged her out to sea, then dragged her through a hurricane, but to everyone's displeasure, she wound up back on Oregon's coast,'' he said in the declaration, released Friday. The saga that went on for more than a month finally came to a partial end Thursday afternoon, but the 420-foot bow of the New Carissa did not go quietly. In what looked like a sea battle 300 miles out in the Pacific, Navy demolitions experts first blew holes in the ship with explosives, then a destroyer riddled the wreck with 70 artillery rounds. When the stubborn ship insisted on staying afloat, they brought in a nuclear submarine that fired a torpedo, which provided the knockout blast. The ship gurgled back-end first below the surface and now sits two miles down, where its 130,000 gallons of fuel oil onboard can do no more harm. The 639-foot New Carissa first washed ashore at Coos Bay on Feb. 4 and began leaking oil four days later. Efforts to burn the 400,000 gallons of fuel oil on board succeeded in burning only half of it away. The ship split in two and spilled 70,000 gallons on southern Oregon's pristine beaches. When salvage crews tried to tow it out to sea last week, it broke away from the tow line and washed ashore, spilling more oil on that beach. It was hauled out to sea Monday for what proved to be the last time. The Coast Guard, salvage officials and others were to meet Friday to look into how to remove the 220-foot stern still mired in the sand. I have a lot of data that I have not entered into my genealogy program as yet, so I will probably pick one of the children of John Beckelhymer, Sr and concentrate on him or her first, adding little by little, the descendants of the other siblings as time permits. I will try to get to the first posting this weekend. Stay tuned... 3. Lets say that your great-great uncle Ebeneezer Beckelheimer, a fellow totally lacking in character, was hanged for horse stealing and train robbery in Montana in 1889. A cousin has supplied you with the only known photograph of ol' uncle Eb, showing him standing on the gallows. On the back of the picture are the words: Ebeneezer Beckelheimer: Horse thief and train robber; sent to Montana Territorial Prison, 1885. Escaped 1887, robbed the Montana Flyer six times. Caught by Pinkerton Detectives, convicted and hanged, 1889. Pretty grim situation, right? But let's revise things a bit. We simply crop the picture, scan in an enlargement and edit it with image processing software so that all that is seen is a head shot, with the noose carefully deleted from the image. Next, we rewrite the text: Ebeneezer Beckelheimer, Esq., was a famous cowboy in the Montana Territory. His business empire grew to include acquisition of valuable equestrian assets and intimate financial transactions with the Montana railroad. Beginning in 1885, he devoted two years of his life to service at a government facility, finally taking leave to resume his dealings with the railroad. In 1888, he was a key player in a vital investigation run by the renowned Pinkerton Detective Agency. In 1889, Uncle Eb passed away during an important civic function held in his honor when the platform upon which he was standing gave way. Thus we have given Uncle Ebeneezer a distinguished place inside the family tree, not hanging from it. Tom Robison Ossian, Indiana tcrobi@adamswells.com Never argue with an idiot.
