Deanna, Jennifer, Rob, et al: Since there has been so much traffic over this list recently on the children of Levi Beckelhymer, I thought I would publish what I have gathered from the discussion. I am hoping you all can review this so we can converge on the definitive version of this line. Here are some questions/comments: (1) Data that Rob has, that Deanna doesn't: first child's name: A. stands for Anderson, Henderson's middle name: Charles, a child, Harry, b. circa 1859, exact DOB of Charles G. and Moses Levi, Virginia's middle initial is A., Moses' middle name is Levi, Holman's first name is Anderson, Holman and Hines' exact DOBs (2) So is there another child, Harry? (3) Rob and Deanna disagree on Henderson Charles' DOB: Rob has 26 May 1840, Deanna has 20 May 1840 - which is correct? (4) Rob, Deanna and Jennifer disagree on Elizabeth's DOB: Rob has circa 1839, Deanna has circa 1836, Jennifer has 22 Apr 1835 - I assume Jennifer's exact date is correct since it comes from Elizabeth's pension application. However, that would make Mary Elizabeth and Elizabeth likely twins, unless Mary Elizabeth were born in 1834. (5) Rob and Deanna disagree on Charles G's POB: Rob has Floyd County, VA, Deanna has Montgomery County, VA - which is correct? (6) It appears to me that Deanna's Lula E b. 1869 and Ellen b. 1871 may in fact be one and the same person, i.e. Lula Ellen as only Ellen shows up on the 1880 census - comments? (7) Is it Durtha or Dartha? (8) Rob and Deanna disagree on Virginia's DOB: Rob has 16 May 1867, Deanna has 1 May 1867 - which is correct? (9) Where does the name Lasley come from? Was Elizabeth Smith married a second time (after Levi) to a Lasley? Deanna also indicated that one of Levi's daughters was Elizabeth Smith Lasley - did she mean wife, not daughter? (10) Was Henderson's second wife's maiden name Rupp, having previously been married to a Thompson? (11) It seems that Levi's 3rd wife, Elizabeth, would have been born circa 1840, not 1830 as indicated by Deanna - at least if the 1880 census date is correct. Also, I peg Levi's DOB as circa 1813, not 1815 based on the 1880 census data. (12) I have Levi's parent's as Jacob, Jr and Christina. Deanna has John as his father - which is correct? (13) It would seem that Levi married his first wife circa 1832, not 1834 as Deanna has it since their first child was born circa 1833. (14) Is it Henry Edmundson or Henry Edmondson? (15) Was Levi's first wife also enumerated on the 1840 census? Does Levi appear on the 1850, 1860 and 1870 censuses - if so what do they show? Descendancy Narrative of Levi Beckelhymer I. In a message dated 99-04-18 14:39:47 EDT, you write: << Did Leah Brown give her Mary the name Elizabeth? So far the records i have seen state her name as Mary and not Elizabeth. jen >> Jen, Maybe she saw records for Mary and other records for Elizabeth and since they were so close in age maybe she thought they were the same. Maybe John can figure out all this TOTAL confusion on my part as to Elizabeth Lasley Smith and Nancy Lasley Smith???? Maybe I've been going on the wrong assumption here. Deanna
In a message dated 99-04-18 13:14:54 EDT, you write: << Elizabeth Lasley Smith would have been born somewhere around 1840 if she was married in 1884 at the age of 45. Thanks Sallye! I didn't realize I was hitting so close to home when I asked my innocent question <grin> John Charles Tippet JohnDoeTippet@csi.com P.S. What do you think of my new version of the descendancy narrative? I haven't received any comments yet (other than Rick Phillips). I would like to get a dialogue going on this this, but there doesn't seem to much activity/interest on this list at the moment. In a message dated 99-04-18 11:42:38 EDT, you write: << (7) Is it Durtha or Dartha? It's Dartha A. Beckelhimer--18 m. Geo. W. Burk--21 dau. of L & B. Beckelhiemer 26 Feb. 1880 Montgomery Co. Vital Records. (8) Rob and Deanna disagree on Virginia's DOB: Rob has 16 May 1867, Deanna has 1 May 1867 - which is correct? I can't say right off hand where I got the date from but it may have been from a descent of Virginia's. (9) Where does the name Lasley come from? Was Elizabeth Smith married a second time (after Levi) to a Lasley? Deanna also indicated that one of Levi's daughters was Elizabeth Smith Lasley - did she mean wife, not daughter? I explained this in my first message, Elizabeth Smith (maiden) Lasley (1st marr.) b. in N.C. m. Levi 1884 but were living together since 1857 or so in common law. That was because Levi's 2nd. Nancy Ann Newman King wouldn't give Levi a divorce according to Leah Brown. (10) Was Henderson's second wife's maiden name Rupp, having previously been married to a Thompson? Yes, this info was found in the Floyd Co. 1860 census. She was listed as Thompson with no maiden in the Raleigh Co. Marriages 1850-1910. Elizabeth said her age was 40 in the 1880 Census and gave her age as 45 in 1884 when she got married to Levi. So the 1830 is about-- in my opinion. (12) I have Levi's parent's as Jacob, Jr and Christina. Deanna has John as his father - which is correct? I've never had Jacob's father as John, his father was Abraham and Abraham's father John. (13) It would seem that Levi married his first wife circa 1832, not 1834 as Deanna has it since their first child was born circa 1833. My info came from Leah Brown Levi & Artimissa's grandaughter. (14) Is it Henry Edmundson or Henry Edmondson? Vital Records says: Edmundson but they sure could've been wrong. They had Susan Beckelhimer's husband listed as Charles Wm. Steaver and his last name was Stewart according to his descendants. (15) Was Levi's first wife also enumerated on the 1840 census? I'm not sure if it was Nancy Ann Newman or Artimissa Ferguson. Does Levi appear on the 1850, 1860 and 1870 censuses - if so what do they show? >> 1850-- Levi, 35 Rhoda Darr 24 F. Harrison --13 Sarah Norris 4 F. Henderson--11 It was from the above age on Levi I determined his age. at About 1815 1860 from memory lists Levi, Elizabeth and their first born Henry. No sign or listing for Harrison or Henderson 1870 I'll have to search my various PILES for. I believe I have the above listed in a notebook it has Levi living with Elizabeth and in the same enumeration district Henderson is living with his wife Sarah Ellen Smith and about three of their children. I found Henderson living in the 1860 district with Isaac and Rachel Vest in Floyd Co. I figure he must've gotton kicked out of the house when Levi and Elizabeth started living together and may have gone to stay with Uncle Isaac to learn the distrillery business since it was something that was passed down to my gt. grandfather Levi Harrison Beckelhimer. Other's said because Henderson was with Isaac in that 1860 census he was Isaac's son, I don't think so. Since there is no record or death cert. for Henderson I can't prove that. There's no record of his 2nd marr. either to look on that certificate who was listed as his parents. All I have to go on is the census record. Why would he be living with Levi in 1850 if he wasn't Levi's son and why would he be living on Levi's land in Raleigh Co. if he wasn't his son? Plus my gt. Aunt Gussie Beckelhimer Williams refered to Levi and Elizabeth's son Hines as Uncle Hines. Deanna

My habit is when writing down records is to write it exactly as it's written. That's why in my descendancy the 1880 census was copied as it was written. Lula E. came from Montgomery Co. Vital records. Deanna
In a message dated 99-04-18 11:42:38 EDT, you write: << (3) Rob and Deanna disagree on Henderson Charles' DOB: Rob has 26 May 1840, Deanna has 20 May 1840 - which is correct? >> Mine came from Henderson's tombstone itself when I was there in 1989. Also from the Cemetery book for Raleigh Co. WV that was written by the genealogical soc. of Fayette and Raleigh Co. WV. Deanna
In a message dated 99-04-18 11:42:38 EDT, you write: << (1) Data that Rob has, that Deanna doesn't: first child's name: A. stands for Anderson, Henderson's middle name: Charles, a child, Harry, b. circa 1859, exact DOB of Charles G. and Moses Levi, Virginia's middle initial is A., Moses' middle name is Levi, Holman's first name is Anderson, Holman and Hines' exact DOBs >> I don't know where the Anderson comes from, all I know it by is A. from the Marriage record. Forget Henderson's middle name as Charles (for me it was only a theory I was kicking arou) His middle name is either Tyler or Jyles but I'm more included to think it's Jyles---that's what it was stated as in William Jackson Beckelhimer's obituary and Tyler MAY have been a misinterpritation from Martha Beckelhimer's bible records. The script is not that clear. I don't know where Harry came from either----their first child was Henry Edmundson Beckelhimer b. 1858 male d. 9 Dec. 1862 Diptheria as stated in Montgomery Co. Records. Hines' date of birth: he's listed as 25 on 31 Jul. 1902 when he married Peradine Holdren 16 in Raleigh Co. WV. marriages 1850-1910. On the rest, how I have it listed in the descendancy of Levi Beckelhimer is how I had it. Deanna

It is on a marriage certificate as well as a deed giving Jacob and Christina as his father. >> It's also on the Montgomery Co. Va. record when Levi married Elizabeth Smith (maiden) Lasley (1st marr.). It was listed as father of Levi Jacob and mother C. I've never had it down that John was Levi's father. Jen's date for her Elizabeth is correct mine was just circa or about. Deanna
Carole: So I assume you must be related to these Holmes'. Are you related to one of the Holmes who married Beckelhymers? If so, which one? I am very interested in piecing together the Beckelshymer family of Fulton County, IL. Many of this line are already included on my web page (point your browser to: http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/JohnDoeTippet/). Cliff Trimble, who is a member of this list, is also related to one of the Fulton County Beckelshymers, but I don't remember which one at the moment. The probable progenitor of most, if not all, of the Fulton County Beckelshymers was John who died in Fulton County, IL in 1847. He was the father of the Benjamin who married Mary Ann Holmes. The John who married Margaret E Holmes is a mystery to me. He must be related to the John mentioned previously, either as a son or grandson. I have just learned that the elder John, as well as two of his sons, Henry and Benjamin, left wills in Fulton County, IL. I have these on order and am hoping they will shed some light on this line. I'll let you know what I find when they arrive. Is there any chance you could send me a short descendancy narrative of John and Sarah (Scott) Holmes, say down to their grandchildren? I am interested in dates and places of birth, marriage, death and burial, where they lived, which censuses they are recorded in, etc. Hoping you can help... John... A Patey Behymer marr John Medaris on Oct.14, 1813. This was some record I picked up from Bonny Farwell (4-30-1958). She said this information was obtained by her mother (Belle Bonnell Farwell), years ago. It may be shown in the IGI. I notice I also show that Rob Dupuy gave marriage as Jan. 3, 1846. Don't know where he got that date Mary Donham, dau of Abel and Elizabeth (Ferguson) Donham, marr William Behymer Sep 18, 1823 OH.Clermont. William was son of Samuel and Catharine (Logan) Behymer. Rick: We really need to figure out how all the various David Beckelhymers fit in. My infomation shows the following Davids: (1) David Picklehimer who married Elizabeth Smith, daughter of Ebeneazer Smith on 18 Jun 1794 in Montgomery County, VA (John Wayne and John Walter Picklesimer in their book: "The Picklesimers of Eastern Kentucky" say that all 3 of them are living in Campbell County, KY in 1810 per the census enumeration, and that this David later moved to Floyd County, KY where he married Sarah Prater) (2) David PekelSimer who married Sarah (Sally) Moore circa 14 Jun 1802 in Franklin County, VA (3) David Picklesimer who married Sarah Prater on 15 Apr 1817 in Floyd County, KY (4) David Peckelsimer who married Elizabeth Sailor circa 15 Jan 1802 in Franklin County, VA (5) David Beckelhymer who died in Clermont County, OH circa Jul 1818 with likely wife, Elizabeth, listed as administrator of his estate (6) David Beckelhymer who was a brother of Samuel, both sons of John, Sr, who supposedly "stayed in VA, not coming to OH" per Aaron Sargeant Behymer in his diary (7) David Beckelhymer, cousin of Jonathan Behymer per the Nauvoo Temple Baptisms for the Dead I believe that it is highly likely that the David who was the cousin of Jonathan, was the David who died in Clermont County in 1818, and that he was the son of John Beckelhymer, Jr and Barbara Weddle, as John, Jr would have been the only brother likely to have been old enough to have had a married son, David dying in 1818. As David's likely wife was listed as Elizabeth, it would seem that this David was then either the David who married Elizabeth Smith or the one who married Elizabeth Sailor. Now the David who married Elizabeth Smith was born circa 1772 per John Wayne and John Walter Picklesimer and between 1765 and 1784 per the 1810 census enumeration. That would make him too old to have been the son of John, Jr. Consequently, I am lead to the tentative conclusion that the David Beckelhymer who married Elizabeth Sailor was the son of John, Jr and Barbara Weddle and that he died in 1818 in Clermont County, OH. The David who was a close brother to Samuel per Aaron Behymers diary would likely have been born about the same time as Samuel, who was born in 1763. Now, the David who married Elizabeth Smith seems to be the only David old enough to have been that close brother to Samuel, although they would still have been about 9 years apart in age (based on John Wayne and John Walter's birth date of 1772) but could have been much closer in age based on the 1810 census (I assume he was born circa 1865). Your theory regarding Smith Behymer also fits in with this David being a brother to Samuel. True, this David did not move to Clermont County, OH, however, he didn't exactly stay in VA, either as he was living just across the Ohio River in Campbell County, KY. In any event, as he wasn't in Clermont, Aaron Sargeant probably would not have had that much recollection of him, in particular, where he was living. Does anyone have any more information on this David? It seems that he must have been alive circa 1840; otherwise he would likely have been listed in the Nauvoo Temple Baptisms for the Dead as a brother to Jonathan. Until more information comes in, I am tentatively assuming that the David who married Elizabeth Smith was the close brother of Samuel (John Walter Picklesimer: what say you to this?) John Walter and John Wayne Picklesimer make a pretty good case that the Abraham and David Picklesimer who were the founders of the Eastern Kentucky branch of the family were brothers, and they also show a close tie-in between Abraham and Jacob, Sr. Consequently, I am tentatively assuming that the David who married Sarah Prater and who was born circa 1772 per John Wayne and John Walter Picklesimer was the son of Jacob, Sr. However, I am not assuming that this David had previously married Elizabeth Smith. I wonder what data John Wayne and John Walter have to substantiate the two marriages, first to Elizabeth Smith and second to Sarah Prater. That leaves the David who married Sarah Moore. By a process of elimination, I am left with the WAG that he was the son of Abraham, Sr and Christina. I welcome comments on any or all of this educated guessing. ---------- > From: Rick Phillips <Edwin-P@worldnet.att.net> > To: BEHYMER-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: Re: An Incredible Breakthrough > Date: Monday, April 12, 1999 10:53 AM > > Great work John! > > As far as I can tell, the information you have unearthed is entirely > consistent with the unifying of all the Picklesimer/Behymer families. > It looks like there are two new children of John Sr.: Susan (from Book > A,p.18), and Abraham. > > I was very curious about the Smith Behymer mentioned in book C p. 13. > Since Jonathan was an uncle, is it possible that this Smith is the son > of David Sr. b. 1772, and Elizabeth Smith of Montg. One of Abel Donham's (and presumably his wife, Elizabeth's) daughters was Mary Behymer as indicated in his will which was signed on 1 Jan 1847. Also, one of Thomas Medaris' (and presumably his wife, Nancy's) daughters was Patey B. hymer as indicated in his will which was signed on 12 Dec 1846 (Daniel B. Hymer was one of the subscribing witnesses). Does anyone know how these Behymers fit in? John Charles Tippet JohnDoeTippet@csi.com
FYI: Found the following under Cemetery Inscriptions of Fulton County, IL, Vol 2, Kerton, Isabel, Waterford Townships: Otto Cemetery, Isabel township, Section 30 Otto Cemetery is located on property of R. John, Aren't you glad you went to Salt Lake last week? Quite a shooting there, I believe yesterday, on the main floor. Having to do your taxes helped you this year! Sallye
sorry forgot to put this, after talking to leah brown, about her Elizabeth, the way she arrived at the date of birth was by seeing it on Elizabeth's gravestone. She sent me a copy of Mary(that is what the certificate says) and Henderson Sutphins' marriage certificate from VA. It states that Mary is 24 years old in January of 1859. It puts their marriage date at January 20, 1859. That would have her being born 1834/1835. I can't figure out how both of their birthdates could be 1835 unless they had different mothers. not to add to the confusion. I don't know if you have a copy of this, but if you don't let me know and i will scan and email to you. jen HolmHogs@aol.com wrote: > Rob, Here's how I have it: > > Descendants of Levi Beckelhimer > > Generation No. 1 > > 1.
