    1. Re: Abraham Adam & David Behymer
    2. John T. I now have my computer back in service and have gone back a checked my files. At this time, the possible line for my Abraham Adam would be Abraham & Christenah and Jacob & Elizabeth. Of the known sons of these two family heads there were two Henrys, a Jacob, a Daniel, an Abraham, two Davids, two Johns and Abraham Adam. It is certain that one of each of the Henrys, Davids and Johns were sons of each of the elder family heads - Abraham and Jacob - but it could never be determined which Henry, which David or which John belonged to which family head. It is also certain that the younger Abraham and Abraham Adam were sons of a different family head, but it could never be determined which was a son of the elder Abraham and his wife Christenah, and which was a son of the elder Jacob and his wife Elizabeth. Therefore, the parents of Abraham Adam Picklesimer are yet unknown. If you have information that would tie the younger Abraham to Abraham and Christenah, I would appreciate a copy. This is a question that is still open for me and I would love to have an answer to it. John W.

John: The roster entry includes your first and last name, city and state, and e-mail address and sometimes names of living relatives. I hesitate to post that on a website for the world to see, but feel comfortable posting it to this mail list for the list members. I could make a revised roster for the website that would delete personal information and suggest interested researchers send e-mail comments to the mail list. So far the following people have expressed interest in being included on the roster: Tom, Deanna, Linda, Cathy, Sallye, Kenny, Kay, Susan, John T., Rick, Kathy, Wilfred and me. Is anyone else interested? Jen? Bev? John P.? Rob? BillyBob? Bryan? Greg? Gary? Anyone? Speak up now. Don't be shy. The roster will give us all a reference when we see a message posted to the list. It will help us to recollect the lineage of the person and it fosters a sense of comaraderie. I hope to finish it up on Sunday, then post it to the list. I love the anecdotes you folks are sending. It's great. Twila

    3. I copied all of the land transactions for the two surnames: Becklehimer and Lazena from the Franklin County, Virgina deed index (1786-1897) (LDS microfilms 0031494 and 0031495) today at my local LDS family history center. I found the following: >From 0031494 (grantor index): Abraham Behymer to James Webb, Bk 4, p 642 Barbara to Thomas Whitworth, Bk 5, p 146 John to Alexander Ferguson, Bk 2, p 226 Joseph to John Behymer, Bk 3, p 507 John to Joseph Behymer, Bk 3, p 515 John to Thomas Whitworth, Bk 4, p 275 John to John Fishburn, Bk 4, p 440 John to James Green?. 2. John Tippet
    3. Check out the update I just posted to the new Behymer web site (http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/JohnDoeTippet/. The genealogy of Elder John Behymer is unchanged, but I have added 3 scanned images: the Feb 1893 Clermont Courier newspaper article on the Behymers, and the two most relevant pages from the 1880 Everts Clermont County genealogy. I also added a link to Susan Debrunner's home page (at the moment, however, the Behymer section of her web site is under construction). If you want to print any of the scanned images on the web site, just right click with the mouse (under Windows 95) and you will be able to save the jpg image file. If you have some image-handling software, you should then be able to print it. BTW: the trick to uploading reasonably small image files to the Internet is to scan them as jpg files using medium resolution. John Charles Tippet JohnDoeTippet@csi.com

    1. Sons of John Sr.
    2. Rick Phillips
    3. It is great to see so much research/review etc. being done! Here is my attempt to identify the sons of John/Johan/Jonathan Assumptions: 1. I assume that all of men who went early to Clermont CO. were of the same line of Beckelshimers, ie. of John and Eliz., rather than of Abraham or Jacob. 2. Those men traditionally identified with John and Eliz. were either sons, or grandsons by John and Barbara. 3. Children of John, b. 1754, could have been born as early as 1775 or so if he had an early wife, and born by wife Barbara by about 1780. Sons of John and Elizabeth: 1. John, b. 1754. His connection is already documented. He was a half brother to the others, although he might have had a full sister or two. 2. Samuel, b. 1763. He is listed in land transactions as son of John and Eliz. 3. Joseph, b ca 1768-1770, he mar. in 1793. He is too old to be a son of John Jr. 4. Nathaniel, b. 1772, mentioned in many sources as a brother of Samuel. He is also too old to be son of John Jr. 5. David, b. say 1775. He is listed in land records in VA in 1800. 6. Jacob, b. 1777-78. He could be the oldest son of John Jr, but is most often mentioned as a brother to Samuel and Nathaniel. 7. Daniel, b. between 1780-1790, according to 1830 census. He also could be a son of John Jr. The name Daniel is prominent with John Jr's descendents. 8. Enos/Enoch. He was in Clermont early. He could have been born anywhere from 1760-1785. 9. Jonathan, b. 31 Dec 1787. The following children, I believe, are the sons of John Jr. and Barbara: Solomon, b. 1781. He is placed in "Clermont CO. OH", 1980 as the son of John Jr. on pg. 97. He is also listed as a son of John [Jr] and "Sarah A" in the IGI and Ancestral Files at LDS. Aaron's diary has him as a brother of Joel and Martin. His emigration pattern suggests that he was not moving with Samuel, or the others who came to Clermont early. He could certainly be a son of John and Eliz. but I think it more likely that he is a son of John Jr. Joel, b. 1789. He was placed as the son of John Jr. in the History of Clermont, pg. 442, in the biography of Michael Behymer. Ditto for the IGI. Aaron's diary puts him as brother to Solomon and Martin. Martin, b. ca 1794. He is clearly a son of John Jr. John , mar. Charity Harger another son could be Levi, who mar. Esther Frans. Please give your opinions. Rick Phillips Edwin-P@worldnet.att.net

    1. Re: Too many Johns
    2. Hi... Since we are all guessing about the Johns, with some facts here and there, lets assume Johan George (the elder) John .... (the son) John Joseph... (known as John Jr) I have a map of Franklin Co, VA (too large to send over email) which shows Joseph owned property on Chestnut Creek. According to land transactions, John and Barbara owned this land. Perhaps he was also known as Joseph, because of the many different Johns before and around him...then decided to be called John again? What a wild story we could write about these illusive Beckelhymers! Who wants to write this story....I guess we elected John T to take this job over. John Jr and Barbara's children that were named heirs in 2 land transactions in Clermont were: 1. SOPHIA BEHYMER ARCHER b. 1783 VA.Henry (if this birthday is correct) marr Chapman Archer. 2. JOHN BECKELHYMER #4, b. abt 1787 VA ..supposed to be the one who marr Charity Ann Harger. ALTHO, Ralph Behymer and a Mary Belle Crosier (1963) said that John marr Anna Hunter Aug 4, 1813 Clermont Co, OH; yet another researcher said John marr Anna Henry Aug 12, 1806, PA.Philadelphia. This John ended up in Fulton Co, IL. 3. LEVI B.HYMER born 1777-1792, marr Esther France (1812- Clermont OH) He died in KY, Campbell Co - wife remarried. 4. ELIZABETH D. BEHYMER, born abt 1788 VA marr a Jacob Rardin...nothing known on him. 5. CATHERINE BEHYMER, b 3-9-1791 VA; marr Thomas Littleton. 6. MARTIN BEHYMER/B'HYMER, born 1794 VA.Franklin, marr 1) Lucinda Beagle 1816 KY.Campbell 2) Elizabeth Lindsey 1827 OH.Clermont. Lived part of the time in Clermont, and part in Campbell Co, KY, where he died 1881. 7. BENJAMIN BECKELHYMER, b. abt 1794-1800; died 1844 Fountain IN. Marr 1) Jane Ferguson (dau of Isaiah) 1819 OH.Clermont; 2) Eunice Fitzpatrick 1824 OH.Clermont. 8. LYDIA BECKELHYMER b. 1794-1804; marr Jesse Beckelhymer (son of Joseph) and died bef 1829 in Clay or Henry, IN. It is said that Lydia remarried... 9. CHRISTINE BEHYMER b. abt 1800-VA; married Peter Robb 1818 OH.Clermont; She died 1866 possibly in IN. Delaware.Muncie. These are the only children named in the sale of John's land, in Clermont co OH. When Barbara died, she named Esther (Behymer) Johns as heir, but this must have been a grandchild...by who? Don't know. If there were other heirs/descendants of John, we can't verify as yet. Have a good day...stewing over all the Johns. Sallye

    3. Twila: I have added the birth and death years below. As far as an interesting fact, family legend (unverified) has it that John Jay Lower, who married Elizabeth Beckelshymer, was a descendant of John Jay, the first Supreme Court Justice of the United States. John Lower's father (Peter) and grandfather (Michael) were some of the earliest residents of Clermont County, OH, having purchased land there adjacent to the Beckelshymers from Nathaniel Lucas in 1806. Michael and two of his sons sold their land in 1809 and left for parts unknown. Peter apparently drowned himself in the Ohio River in a fit of insanity according to Evert's History of Clermont County, Ohio. BTW: Nathaniel Lucas (who resided in Montgomery County, VA, probably near the Beckelshymers) received a very large land grant in Clermont County, Ohio from the United States of America for his service in the Revolutionary War. Some of this land was sold to Michael Lower as well as to several of the Beckelshymer brothers who left Virginia for Ohio circa 1805 (Joseph, John, Jr, Samuel and Nathaniel) I think this is a good idea you had to collect this roster information. What do you say if I post the finished product to the new Behymer web site, so other researchers will know whom to contact? ---------- > From: Veysey <veysey@coos.or.us> > To: John Tippet <johndoetippet@csi.com> > Subject: Roster Entry > Date: Friday, September 25, 1998 8:37 PM > > John: > > Do you have any birth and death years? 3. Tom: Aaron got it wrong in his diary regarding Martin. Martin is a known son of John, Jr, not John, Sr. I have my doubts about Daniel being a son of John, Sr. I think it is more likely that he is also a son of John, Jr, as well but have no real basis for this other than a hunch. Clearly, we now know for sure that Jonathan was one of the sons of John, Sr (see article I posted yesterday). I believe Aaron when he says David was one of the sons of John, Sr. The question is which David (the one who died in Clermont County in 1818 with wife, Elizabeth (Sailor?) or the one who married Sarah Moore). Regarding the Enoch/Enos controversy, I don't know. Aaron says that Enos lived for only a short time in Clermont County, moving west, with some of his relatives working in St Louis for the Globe Democrat. This does not seem to be a made-up story, but the problem is we have no substantion of any of this. We know there was an Enoch who died in Clermont County in 1816 with wife Sally. Did Aaron get Enos confused with Enoch? Two of the sons of John, Jr are listed as recipients of the distribution of Enoch's estate, which leaves me wondering, if Enoch may have also been a son of John, Jr. Other than these few loose ends, I think the other siblings are well documented (including the two sisters, Anne and Elizabeth) who married and remained in Virginia.
