I was hoping to send out the roster tonight, but received 5 new entries, including one who just joined our mail list today. Thanks for all the information you have sent me. You will enjoy the ancestor trivia that I am including. Some were too long and I had to edit, but I will forward the entire messages on to all of you in a separate post. The following cousins did not include any interesting tidbits for me. Last chance, if you have something, send it on. Susan, Kenny, John H., Wilfred, Kay, Deanna, Kathy, John P., David N., Cathy. I'm not going to delete any information, unless you specifically ask me too. You will enjoy this list. Some of you may learn that you are neighbors. If we depersonalize it, we lose something. I will make a revised, impersonal list for John T. to put on his website. Hope to post it by Tuesday, now. Twila
Hello all, I don't write much to this group, but I try to read all that comes by. I've been trying to set up my dad with a computer and teach him how to use it. It appears that there are two version of my geniology. Two books with different endings. The first book, most of you have probaly have already read, has a lot of Behymers in it but only the last few pages have anything about the side of the Behymers that I am on. The second book was done later which concentrated on the side of the Behymers that I am on writen by my grandmother. Anyways, I'll summarize what the two books say and if you could, I would appreciate any comments you have about each of them. Here is my family tree according to the book "Deep Roots -Beckelhymer" By Edith Beach Sipple and other in 1979. 1 Jonathan Behymer .2 Samuel Behymer 1763 - ..3 Henry Markeley Behymer 1837 - ...4 Samuel Elliott Behymer ....5 Iven (Isaac) (Ivan) Eugene Behymer 1880 - 1901 .....6 Marrill Eugene Behymer 1905 - 1993 ......7 Darrell Eugene Behymer 1929 - .......8 Greg Behymer 1957 - Here is my family tree according to the book "Beckelshymer, Behelhymer, Behymer Roots" By Mary Behymer in 1995. 1 John Beckelshymer 1780 - 1847 ..2 Benjamin W. Thanks
Thanks a lot, Sallye. I haven't dealt much with tax records, what do the "m" and "h" stand for? Linda
Hi, all >Is anyone else interested? Jen? Bev? John P.? Rob? BillyBob? Bryan? >Greg? Gary? Anyone? Speak up now. Don't be shy. The roster will give us all >a reference when we see a message posted to the list. It will help us to >recollect the lineage of the person and it fosters a sense of comaraderie. > >I hope to finish it up on Sunday, then post it to the list. I love the >anecdotes you folks are sending. It's great. I did a brief web search on Friday (at work... naughty, naughty) and found a Lori Johnson on another genealogy page. So I wrote her a note, asking if she was the same who had been on the Behymer list. No response, yet. I'll keep trying. I believe that my ancestery is known and listed on the web but here it goes again: John Walter Picklesimer (3/23/1939, Pike County, Kentucky - living, Fayette County, Kentucky) Clancey Ernest Picklesimer (12/20/1905, Pike County, Ky. - 7/3/1992, Pike County, Kentucky) Edward Jackson Picklesimer (3/30/1874, Johnson County, Kentucky - 3/1/1955, Pike County, Kentucky) John Milton Picklesimer (7/22/1854, Johnson County, Kentucky - 12/16/1929, Pike County, Kentucky) Nathaniel Picklesimer (7/18/1829, Floyd County, Kentucky - 3/8/1904, Johnson County, Kentucky) John Picklesimer (Abt. 1807, Gallia County, Ohio - 2/2/1860, Johnson County, Kentucky) Abraham Adam Picklesimer (6/4/1775, Virginia ? - 10/11/1823, Floyd County, Kentucky) The father of Abraham Adam Picklesimer is not known at the present! John Walter Picklesimer
John W: It seems to me that in your book, you and John Wayne were leaning towards Abraham, Jr as being a son of Abraham, Sr. If that is the more probable scenario, then wouldn't it be appropriate to assign Abraham Adam (and his supposed brother David), the two that formed the Eastern Kentucky branches, to Jacob, Sr? (Of course we could add the appropriate disclaimers, etc.) I also inferred from your book that (1) the Henry who was the son of Abraham, Sr was Henry, Sr (the progenitor of the NC and SC branch), and that the Henry who was the son of Jacob, Sr was the Henry who married Sarah Renfro, (2) the John who was the son of Jacob, Sr was identified as John, 3rd who married Elizabeth Miller and Katherine Sailor. I wasn't aware, however, that there was another David who was the son of Abraham, Sr. It makes sense to me, though, based on a query that I previously sent to this list (see below). I also wasn't aware that there was another John who was a son of Abraham, Sr - do you have anything on him? Comments? John Charles Tippet JohnDoeTippet@csi.com Copy of prior query: All of your serious (and not so serious) Behymer researchers out there: I need help in understanding where the various David Behymers fit in. On 15 Jan 1802, David Behymer executed a bond to marry Elizabeth Sailor in Franklin County, VA. On 14 Jun 1802, another David Behymer execuled a bond to marry Sarah Moore, also in Franklin County, VA. There is an estate in Clermont County, OH circa Jul 1818 for a David Behymer, with wife, Elizabeth. Aaron Behymer's diary says that the David who was one of the nine (or more) Behymer brothers (sons of John, Sr) stayed in VA, never coming to Ohio. There is a Sally Behymer in the 1820 census of Preble County, OH living next to Jonathan Behymer, probable son of John, Sr. Yet another David Behymer married Elizabeth Smith on 18 Jun 1794 in Montgomery County, VA; they removed to Campbell County, KY and then later to Floyd County, KY and founded one line of the eastern Kentucky Picklesimers (from "The Picklesimers of Eastern Kentucky"). A David Behymer of Grayson County, VA purchased land from William Smith in Montgomery County, VA on 23 Sep 1806. >From all this, it appears that there are at least 3 separate Davids: (1) the one who founded one line of the eastern Kentucky Picklesimers - he is thought to be the son of John, Sr, Abraham, Sr or Jacob, Sr, which is unknown (2) the one who married Sarah Moore (is she the Sally Behymer in Preble County, OH in 1820?) - is he the son of John, Sr? (3) the one who married Elizabeth Sailor (is she the widow of the David who died in Clermont County, OH? - as seems likely) - who is this David's father - is it John, Sr as opposed to the David who married Sarah Moore? - given the Clermont County connection, could Aaron have been wrong in his diary when he said that David stayed in VA, never coming to OH and that he is, in fact, a son of John, Sr? (Note: it is curious that this marriage was not referenced in the book by John Wayne and John Walter Picklesimer - comments, John and John?) Comments greatly appreciated. BTW: I have spent most of this weekend documenting the material that is in the book referenced above (I am currently at item 23 of 110 and it is a slow-going and tedious process). For any of you who do not have this book, it is a must - an incredible amount of research went into it!. When completed, I will be adding (and correcting) a lot of the data that was included in my initial posting to the new Behymer web site. I am probably at least two more weeks away from posting an update. In the meantime, I haven't heard from anyone on this list. I would be happy to include any corrections or additions that others think is appropriate. ---------- > From: JPick323@aol.com > To: BEHYMER-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: Re: Abraham Adam & David Behymer > Date: Sunday, September 27, 1998 8:15 AM > > John T. > > I now have my computer back in service and have gone back a checked my files. > At this time, the possible line for my Abraham Adam would be Abraham & > Christenah and Jacob & Elizabeth. > > Of the known sons of these two family heads there were two Henrys, a > Jacob, a Daniel, an Abraham, two Davids, two Johns and Abraham Adam. Barb: Chestnut creek in Franklin Co, Va is located above Chestnut Mountain, lower right hand side, up about 3-5 inches. There is a little Chestnut Creek which starts at about Thomas Ramsey (1751) above Brier Mountain above Sydnorsville, runs over and connects with Big Chestnut Crk about where Hanging Rock is located and then around Chestnut Mountain and deadends into Walker Crk. A Samuel Webb & Rebecca Webb sold 100A and Stankhope & Carey Richeson sold 49A to John Beckelshymer making a total of 149A. Bk 2, page 439 1792.Nov.05. The Joseph Pickleheimer (1783) lived ...go to right side of map, to where th Sataunton River goes east...about half way down. Then go back about 3 inches and up 1 inch. He is located about at Scroggs P.O. and below Hutchingsons Mill on Gills Creek. John & Barbara sold 200A Waters of Gills Creek begins on Talbots Corner to M. McPikes line to Alexander Ferguson. If you follow Gills Creek to the left of where you find Joseph P you will find Alexander Ferguson. It had been so many years since I worked on these maps, guess I thought my memory was okay ...but had to review this. For the rest of the gang... I have the following maps 1. Bedford Co = 1750-1865. 2. Fincastle Co = 1772-1777 (no names on this) 3. Montgomery Co = 1750-1865 (no Becklehymers shown) 4. Roanoke Co = shows original grants- no Beckelhymers 5. Wythe Co =1745-1858 =found no Beckelhymers 6. Pulaski Co =1776=1976 = found no Beckelhymers 7. Botetourt Co = 1770=1820 - found no Beckelhymers Some of the descriptions of land sales etc, you could just about find it on one or another of the maps. I have a lot of the VA land records...by no means all of them... I just gathered these from ...wherever... over the years. I also have a lot of Clermont Co, OH and a lot from Campbell Co KY (mostly my forefathers Behymer, Perry, Nelson, etc) Barb, does the above info on the creeks help? Hope so. Sallye
John T., Having the documented proof and making assumptions or best guess, based upon information that one currently has is the major difference. I believe that you will also find in the book a statement that references the "family legend" of Abraham Adam and David being brothers but no real proof had been found. At this time I am not in a position to state with confidence that Abraham Adam is the son of Abraham, Sr. or Jacob. The same applies to David. Until we find additional information that will help to determine this, I will continue to maintain that the parents of Abraham Adam and David are unknown and whether or not David and Abraham Adam are brothers would still be a question. John Walter

Rick: Regarding your first point, I agree with you with the exception of Moses, Aaron and William (who lived in Washington and Monroe townships) and whom I believe to be children of Jacob, Jr, son of Araham, Sr. All of the other Behymers in Clermont County seem to descend from John, Sr. Which land transaction lists Samuel's parents as John and Elizabeth? I am leaning towards Daniel as being a son of John, Jr. Do you believe Enos and Enoch are one and the same person? When I update the new Behymer web site, should we show them as two (or one) and as a son(s) of John, Sr or John, Jr? Regarding Solomon, I vote for John, Sr as the father based on the Clermont Courier 1893 newpaper article and p 431 from Everts History of Clermont, both of which name Solomon as a brother to John, Jr, and not a son. Aaron's diary has some errors, which is to be expected, given that it was written many years after the events took place. If you read p 431 of Everts carefully, you will find that Joel is not listed as the son of John, Jr, rather he is mentioned just after the 4th brother (Solomon) is mentioned with no indication of relationship. I infer based on the placement in the article, that Joel was the 5th brother. This is consistent with Aaron's diary, if you agree with me that Solomon was a brother of John, Jr. Aaron clearly got it wrong with Martin, as he (as well as his brother, Levi) are known through land transactions, to have been sons of John, Jr and not John, Sr. I believe the John who married Charity Harger ended up in Fulton County, IL after a stint in Indiana and is a son of John, Jr, as well. There is some confusion over his wife's surname, however. In Franklin County, VA, where they were married she is listed as Charity Harger. In the Fulton County, Illinois records (the Howard Cemetery where she was buried, e.g.) she is listed as Anne. Were Charity and Anne one and the same person, i.e. Charity Anne Harger? Also Sallye Gundy has some conflicting data that indicates that she wasn't Charity Harger, at all, but Anna Henry or Anna Hunter, instead. Comments? Twila: We could leave out the later generations (and any personal data), as I have done for my own entry, What do the others who have provided information for the new roster say? Dear Cousin Twila; I would like to be added to the Behymer, et al, roster as long as you don' t mind the only descendancy named SIMER taking up space! My descendancy from Volume I is: Abraham Adam Picklesimer Samuel Picklshimer Lewis Pickleshimer name changed to Lewis Preston Simer b. 1832 KY (then myown data as Lewis is the noted in Voume I as having no further information available) Sara Catherine Simer b. 1862, Texas Bertie Burks b. 1888, Texas Carl Self, b. 1907, Oklahoma Genie Ve Orene Self, by. 1926, AZ David M. Newlin, b. - aw, shucks, it's a secret (along with my middle name). I have all of my data, both ancestry and descendancy, on disc, should anyone care to have a copy. I am really enjoying all the information flow back and forth. As soon as I finish up some small projects on my Self and Newlin ancestry (are there any small family history projects?), I will be asking for some GED.COM files to add and expand my Simer lineage. Thanks so much. Cousin David in El Paso
