Rick: Thanks for the data dump. We definitely need to look up those Rinker wills. I did a quick look in the AIS (accelerated indexing system) of the LDS Church for the surname Rinker prior to 1800. There were quite a few listed in the Pennsylvania area (Philadelphia, Bucks and Northhampton Counties, predominately). The Henry Rinker you found was also listed in Frederick County, VA as well as various others in Dunmore County, VA. My hunch is to look in PA. I will have to see if I have any prove that the John Waggoner of Clermont County, was the son of Melcher. I think he was, but I am not sure if I can prove it. ---------- > From: Rick Phillips <Edwin-P@worldnet.att.net> > To: John Tippet <johndoetippet@csi.com> > Subject: James Madison Behymer's marriage date > Date: Monday, November 09, 1998 9:52 PM > > Hi John, > > > >John Tippet wrote: > > You listed James Madison's marriage date as 7-44-1871, I assume a typo. > > Can you provide the correct date? > Sorry about that, John, the proper date is 4 July, 1871 in Adams Co. > IL. Hi Phyllis: I doubt it. The only Beckelhymers that I know of who lived in Preble County were Jonathan and his next door neighbor, Sally. They show up in the 1820 census. By 1830, Jonathan was back in Clermont and after that he became a Mormon and ended up in Nauvoo, IL circa 1840. I don't know what became of Sally. In any event, it wouldn't hurt to look to see if there are any Beckelhymers or Picklesimers listed. I doubt you will find any, however, as none show up in the census index for OH. Of course, I have found individuals who were enumerated in the census but who don't show up in the census index, but they are not too common. Good luck. Rick: Many thanks for the kind words and more importantly on the data on the Waggoners and Becketts (and Solomon Behymer) you provided. I have on order microfilms for Montgomery County, VA from my local LDS library (as well as for Preble County, OH and Lawrence County, IN). These are mostly indexes of land transactions. It seems that the Becketts didn't make it to Franklin County, VA, so am anxious to see what I find in Montgomery County for them. I think I also ordered the probate records for Botetourt County, but I can't quite remember. You have spurred me on to transcribe the will of Melcher Waggoner so here goes. Rob, Here's all I have on Susan Clarinda BEHYMER, sent to me from Sallye, from records of the "U. B. Church--1877", list of Behymers. Susan Clarinda Behymer b. 8 Feb 1866 OH Clermont Also from Sallye but not sure of the source was that Susan Clarinda "Clara" B'Hymer was born to Lewis and Hester B. "Hattie" Woods Behymer on 8 Feb 1866 in Campbell Co. KY, Newport (notice there 4 other children who are older that Susan born in Clermont, OH) and married on 29 Sep 1889 in Campbell Co., KY to Fred S. Pond. Hester died before 1869, Lewis married Delilah Catherine (Custer) ROBB on 21 Sep 1869 in Clermont Co., OH, but, they had no children. Maybe Sallye will be able to help you more. Linda

One Sunday morning the pastor noticed little Johnny was standing staring up at the large plaque that hung in the foyer of the church. The young man of seven had been staring at the plaque for some time, so the pastor walked up and stood beside him and gazing up at the plaque he said quietly, "Good morning son." "Good morning pastor" replied the young man not taking his eyes off the plaque. "Sir, what is this?" Johnny asked. "Well son, these are all the people who have died in the service", replied the pastor. Soberly, they stood together staring up at the large plaque. Little Johnny's voice barely broke the silence when he asked quietly, "Which one sir, the 8:30 or the 10:30?"
Kay: I was just going through some old E-mail and organizing things, and I came across you query. I assume you must have gotten an answer by now, but just in case you hadn't: I have Harriet Jane Behymer as the daughter of John Behymer and Jane Meeker (John is the son of Nathaniel). I have that Harriet was married to William L Jackson in Ripley, IN, not Covington, OH. I also have a slightly different marriage date: 19 Nov 1846. Hope this helps. BTW: Is the Riverside Cemetery in Sterling? (I am an ex-Coloradan, so am familiar with that area). Francis Marion and Lozier T. Jackson, I assume are both males? Also, do you know where Harriet was living after she married and how she ended up in Colorado, i.e., do you have any census records for her family? ---------- > From: K.Massey <massey@proaxis.com> > To: BEHYMER-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: BEHYMER CONNECTION > Date: Saturday, September 19, 1998 6:26 AM > > I have enjoyed being a part of the list for only three weeks now. Following, is the will of John Harger that I transcribed from a microfilm of the Franklin County, VA probate records. It is important to Behymer researchers in that it provides pretty conclusive evidence, that Charity Harger (John's daughter and wife of John Picklesimer) died before 11 Oct 1822. Consequently, the Anna Beckelshymer (wife of John), who lived in Jackson County, IN in 1820, Lawrence County, IN in 1830 and Fulton County, IL thereafter, could not have been the same person as Charity Harger, i.e., Charity Ann Harger. John could have remarried after the death of his first wife, or he may be a completely other John Beckelhymer from the one who married Charity Harger in Franklin County, VA (some researchers record that John and Anna Beckelhymer were married in Philadelphia, PA). I was pretty excited by this find. I hope you all find it interesting! John Charles Tippet JohnDoeTippet@csi.com P.S. I also found the will of Melcher Waggoner (husband of Elizabeth Beckelhymer, daughter of John, Sr). I will post this to the mailing list after I have transcribed it. WHAT IS A VETERAN?? Some veterans bear visible signs of their service: a missing limb, a jagged scar, a certain look in the eye. Others may carry the evidence inside them: a pin holding a bone together, a piece of shrapnel in the leg - or perhaps another sort of inner steel: the soul's alloy forged in the refinery of adversity. Except in parades, however, the men and women who have kept America safe wear no badge or emblem. You can't tell a vet just by looking. What is a vet? He is the cop on the beat who spent six months in Saudi Arabia sweating two gallons a day making sure the armored personnel carriers didn't run out of fuel. He is the barroom loudmouth, dumber than five wooden planks, whose overgrown frat-boy behavior is outweighed a hundred times in the cosmic scales by four hours of exquisite bravery near the 38th parallel. She - or he - is the nurse who fought against futility and went to sleep sobbing every night for two solid years in Da Nang. He is the POW who went away one person and came back another - or didn't come back at all. He is the Quantico drill instructor who has never seen combat - but has saved countless lives by turning slouchy, no-account rednecks and gang members into Marines, and teaching them to watch each other's backs. He is the parade-riding Legionnaire who pins on his ribbons and medal with a prosthetic hand. He is the career quartermaster who watches the ribbons and medals pass him by. He is the old guy bagging groceries at the supermarket - palsied now and aggravatingly slow - who helped liberate a Nazi death camp and who wishes all day long that his wife were still alive to hold him when the nightmares come. He is the three anonymous heroes in The Tomb Of The Unknowns, whose presence at the Arlington National Cemetery must forever preserve the memory of all the anonymous heroes whose valor dies unrecognized with them on the battlefield or in the ocean's sunless deep. He is an ordinary and yet an extraordinary human being - a person who offered some of his life's most vital years in the service of his country, and who sacrificed his ambitions so others would not have to sacrifice theirs. He is a soldier and a savior and a sword against the darkness, and he is nothing more than the finest, greatest testimony on behalf of the finest, greatest nation ever known. So remember, each time you see someone who has served our country, just lean over and say "Thank You". That's all most people need, and in most cases it will mean more than any medals they could have been awarded.
