Here is his forward: "This was forwarded to me by a correspondent whose opinions I trust, without comment. I cannot personally attest to the accuracy of what is stated in the lengthy summation -- but if nothing else, it should provide a strong inducement to do some in-depth research. I've heard much of what is written from several sources, so my inclination would be to attach some credulity to the purported scientific views." I stopped drinking anything with aspartame (NutraSweet) not long after it came out because of the tremendous headaches I got from it, not to mention the upset stomachs, etc. klp] World Environment Conference on Aspartame ("NutraSweet"): a potent warning [Direct-quoting an article by Nancy Markle, dated 11-20-97] I have spent several days lecturing at the World Environment Conference on Aspartame -- marketed as "NutraSweet", '"Equal", and "Spoonful". In the keynote address by the EPA, they announced that there was an epidemic of multiple sclerosis and systemic lupus, and they did not understand what toxin was causing this to be rampant across the United States. I explained that I was there to lecture on exactly that subject. When the temperature of aspartame exceeds eighty-six degrees F, the wood alcohol in the product converts, first, to formaldehyde and then to formic acid, which in turn causes metabolic acidosis. (Formic acid is the poison found in the sting of fire ants). The methanol toxicity mimics multiple sclerosis; thus patients were being diagnosed with having multiple sclerosis in error. Ironically, multiple sclerosis is not a death sentence, where methanol toxicity is. In the case of systemic lupus, we are finding it has become almost as rampant as multiple sclerosis, especially Diet Coke and Diet Pepsi drinkers. Also, with methanol toxicity, the victims usually drink three to four 12 oz. cans per day, some even more. In the cases of systemic lupus, which is triggered by Aspartame, the victim usually does not know that the Aspartame is the culprit. The victim continues its use, aggravating the lupus to such a degree, that sometimes it becomes life threatening. When we get people off the aspartame, those with systemic lupus usually become asymptomatic. Unfortunately, this disease is not reversible. On the other hand, in the case of those diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, (when in reality, the disease is methanol toxicity), most of the symptoms disappear. We have seen cases where their vision has returned and even their hearing has returned. This also applies to cases of tinnitus. During a lecture I said "If you are using a variant of aspartame, and you suffer from fibromyalgia symptoms, spasms, shooting pains, numbness in your legs, cramps, vertigo, dizziness, headaches, tinnitus, joint pain, depression, anxiety attacks, slurred speech, blurred vision, or memory loss -- you may very well have aspartame disease." People were jumping up during the lecture saying, "I've got this; is it reversible?" It is rampant. Even some of the speakers at my lecture were suffering from these symptoms. In one lecture attended by the Ambassador of Uganda, he told us that their sugar industry is adding aspartame! He continued by saying that one of the industry leader's son could no longer walk - due in part by product usage! We have a very serious problem. Even a stranger came up to Dr. Espisto (one of my speakers) and me and said, 'Could you tell me why so many people seem to be coming down with MS?' During a visit to a hospice, a nurse said that six of her friends, who were heavy Diet Coke addicts, had all been diagnosed with MS. This is beyond coincidence. Here is the problem: There were Congressional hearings when aspartame was included among 100 different products. Since this initial hearing, there have been two subsequent hearings, but to no avail. Nothing has been done. The drug and chemical lobbies have very deep pockets. Now there are over 5,000 products containing this chemical, and THE PATENT HAS EXPIRED. At the time of the first hearing, people had been reported as going blind. (The methanol in the aspartame converts to formaldehyde in the retina of the eye. Formaldehyde is grouped in the same class of drugs as cyanide and arsenic, i.e deadly poisons.) Unfortunately, it just takes longer to quietly kill, but it is killing people and causing all kinds of neurological problems. Aspartame changes the brain's chemistry. It is the reason for severe seizures. This drug changes the dopamine level in the brain. Imagine the effect this creates patients suffering from Parkinson's Disease. This drug also causes birth defects . There is absolutely no reason to take this product. It is NOT a diet product! The Congressional record said, "It makes you crave carbohydrates and will in fact make you FAT". Dr. Roberts stated that when he got patients off Aspartame, their average weight loss was 19 pounds per person. The formaldehyde stores in the fat cells, particularly in the hips and thighs. Aspartame is especially deadly for diabetics. All physicians know what wood alcohol will do to a diabetic. We find that physicians believe that they have patients with retinopathy, when in fact, it is caused by the Aspartame. The Aspartame keeps the blood sugar level out of control, causing many patients to go into a coma. Unfortunately, many have died. People were telling us at the Conference of the American College of Physicians, that they had relatives who'd switched from saccharine to an aspartame product -- and how those same relatives had eventually gone into a coma. Their physicians could not get the blood sugar levels under control. Thus, the patients suffered acute memory loss and eventually coma and death. Memory loss is due to the fact that aspartic acid and phenylalanine are neurotoxic without the other amino acids bound in protein. Thus it goes past the blood brain barrier and deteriorates the neurons of the brain. Dr. Russell Blaylock, neurosurgeon, said, "The ingredients stimulates the neurons of the brain to death, causing brain damage of varying degrees. Dr. Blaylock has written a book entitled "Excitotoxins: The Taste That Kills". (Health Press 1-800-643-2665). Dr. H.J. Roberts, diabetic specialist and world expert on aspartame poisoning, has also written a book entitled "Defense Against Alzheimers Disease". (1-800-814-9800). In his book Dr. Roberts tells how aspartame poisoning is escalating Alzheimer's Disease, and indeed it is. As a hospice nurse told me, women are being admitted as early as 30 years of age with Alzheimer's Doctors. Blaylock and Roberts will be writing a position paper with some case histories and will post it on the Internet. According to the Conference of the American College of Physicians, 'We are talking about a plague of neurological diseases caused by this deadly poison". Dr. Roberts realized what was happening when aspartame was first marketed. He said "his diabetic patients resented memory loss, confusion, and severe vision loss". At the Conference of the American College of Physicians, doctors admitted that they did not know. They had wondered why seizures were rampant (the phenylalanine in aspartame breaks down the seizure threshold and depletes serotonin, which causes manic depression, panic attacks, rage and violence). Just before the Conference, I received a FAX from Norway asking for a possible antidote for this poison because they are experiencing so many problems in their country. This "poison" is now available in over ninety countries worldwide. Fortunately, we had speakers and ambassadors at the conference from different nations who have pledged their help. In turn, we ask that you help too. Print this article out and warn everyone you know. Take anything that contains aspartame back to the store where it was purchased. Take the "No Aspartame Test" and send us your case history. I assure you that Monsanto, the creator of aspartame, knows how deadly it is. They fund the American Diabetes Association, the American Dietetic Association, Congress, and the Conference of the American College of Physicians. The New York Times, on November 15, 1996, ran an article on how the American Dietetic Association takes money from the food industry to endorse their products. Therefore, they are unlikely to criticize any additives or advertise their link to Monsanto. How bad is this? We told a mother with a child using NutraSweet to get it off the product. The child was having grand mal seizures every day. The mother called her physician; he called the ADA, who in turn told the doctor not to take the child off the NutraSweet. We are still trying to convince the mother that the aspartame is causing the seizures. Every time we get someone off aspartame, the seizures stop. If the baby dies, however, we know whose fault it is -- and what we are up against. There are ninety-two documented symptoms of aspartame, from coma to death. The majority of them are neurological, because the aspartame destroys the nervous system. Aspartame disease is partially the cause to what is behind some of the mystery of the Desert Storm health problems. The burning tongue and other problems discussed in over sixty cases can be directly related to the consumption of an aspartame product. Several thousand pallets of diet drinks were shipped to the Desert Storm troops. (Remember, heat can liberate the methanol from the aspartame at 86 degrees F). Diet drinks sat in the 120 degree F. Arabian sun for weeks at a time on pallets. The servicemen and women drank them all day long. All of their symptoms are identical to aspartame poisoning. Dr. Roberts says "consuming aspartame at the time of conception can cause birth defects". The phenylalanine concentrates in the placenta, causing mental retardation, according to Dr. Louis Elsas, Pediatrician Professor - Genetics, at Emory University in his testimony before Congress. In the original lab tests, animals developed brain tumors (phenylalanine breaks down into DXP, a brain tumor agent). When Dr. Espisto was lecturing on aspartame, one physician in the audience, a neurosurgeon, said, "when [pathologists] remove brain tumors, they have found high levels of aspartame in them". A possible solution to consider is Stevia, a non-additive sweet food which helps in the metabolism of sugar. This would be ideal for diabetics, and has now been approved as a dietary supplement by the F.D.A. For years, the F.D.A. had outlawed this sweet food, possibly because of its loyalty to Monsanto. An important caveat here: If the label says "Sugar Free" -- check the ingredients *very* closely! Senator Howard Metzenbaum proposed a bill that would have warned all infants, pregnant mothers and children of the dangers of aspartame. The bill would have also instituted independent studies on the problems existing in the population (seizures, changes in brain chemistry, changes in neurological and behavioral symptoms). The bill was killed by the powerful drug and chemical lobbies, letting loose the hounds of disease and death on an unsuspecting public. Since the aforementioned Conference of the American College of Physicians, we hope to have the help of some world leaders. Again, please help us too. There are many, many people out there who must be warned. Please share this life-saving information with them! --------- End forwarded message ---------- ___________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail. 3. Kathy and Behymer List, It is amusing that the 'opinion' exists that among polite company it is not proper to discuss religion or politics! Why is this absurd opinion so blindly agreed to? If salvation is not important, God would have kept his opinion to himself and not wasted the time and lives of prophets he called to preach to the ignorant. If politics isn't important then our Founding Fathers pledged themselves and all they possessed for nothing! Those who push the line that it isn't polite to discuss religion or politics are the VERY THIEVES THAT WOULD DENY YOU INFORMATION TO KNOW THE WILL OF GOD OR TO UNDERSTAND WHY THIS NATION WAS FORMED! Absolutely, we each have a right to an opinion, well thought out or not, and I would be last one to force an opinion upon another. I am, however, not above providing information I feel is important to knowing God or understanding historically/currently what is happening in our nation. An abundance of actual fact will never cause us to make wrong decisions! The absence of sufficient fact will spell the demise of our nation. Any information I pass on will be clearly marked as "Chat- and a subject". Please don't be offended by effort at education on what I feel is terribly important at this time in American history. No offense is meant. Thanks for your responses! Rob Kathy Friend wrote: > > Hello Twila and all, > > As a member of this mailing list, I'd like to say that I agree with > Cousin David. We do not need to get into a discussion of politics and religion on a mailing list that was established for the purpose of genealogical research. I, nor any of the others on this mailing list are ignorant, they can read, listen to and watch the news and establish their own opinion on politics. I would also believe that most, if not all, have already established an opinion or religion and prefer to not get into a debate via the Internet. I respect their selected beliefs and will honor them by not debating their decision here. If you wish to be a prophet then do as God requested, dispose of all your worldly goods and go out and preach the gospel! This is not the place for religious and political debates!!! Everyone has rights and their rights end where someone else's begins! Please respect the right of others! John

    3. Hello Twila and all, As a member of this mailing list, I'd like to say that I agree with Cousin David. Let's keep religion and politics to ourselves. I'm sure each one on the list has an opinion on each topic and each opinion is different. As Americans, we have the right to our own opinion. But, when we try to force our opinions onto others, that is, indeed, an invasion of privacy. I detest being told what to do, and especially don't appreciate being told how to think. At one time, didn't we agree that the Behymers had a streak of stubbornness??? Just my opinion! Kathy

    1. Re: Off topic messages
    2. I concur with "no off topic messages". It is very difficult to control these things. Further, the site is for Family History. Jokes and that type of thing are certainly all right, but the political type things are almost guarenteed to annoy the majority of the people. It is the same with religion. I see no point at all in doing this. I am prettty conservative policically but we are bound to stir up a hornet's next when we start doing this. There are so many opinons about the matter that I think it simply best to ask they they not use the mailing list to do this. If someone wants to receive this type of informatin, there are plenty of ways to put out buddy lists and that type of thing. I read and I think. I have my own opinions and I frankly do not wish to have anything sent to me that I do not want. I have had my name taken off direct mailing lists because of unwanted mail. It is really too close to an invasion of privacy. Remember the old adage 'A zealot is genrally humorless". I am certainly willing to go along with whatever you as the list owner decide and will continue to delete as and where necesary. It just seems to me that our avowed purpose and that which unites us is love of our complex, varied and dispursed family - We do not need elements that would tend to divide us up in "camps". Thanks for all that you do. I am grateful beyond words. Cousin David in El Paso

That is quite an event for central California! Not only that there were visible snowflakes, but that the snow actually collected on the ground. We had over an inch. O.K. O.K. I'm back! Yes, our basement flooded and I had to move all furniture, computer, etc. to higher ground. It was quite a mess. But I finally got everything dried out, carpet dried, re-laid carpet, shampooed mud out of carpet, moved furniture back, and then I got to decorate for Christmas. Hopefully we have fixed the problem. We'll see next time it rains. We had snow a few days before Christmas. It is the first snow we have had in nine years. My youngest had never played in snow before. The kids in town went crazy. There was a snowman in every yard! Til later, Twila

    3. Hi, Behymer/etc. researchers: First of all I hope all had aMerry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I was so busy in Dec. that I didn't have any genealogy time. Sorry for the belated greetings! Regarding off topic messages: If we tell one person that they cannot send these messages, then we must tell everyone to stop. That means no personal messages or friendly greetings or silly jokes. Since the core Behymer research group began as a group of friends, it was decided that off topic messages were permitted as long as they were clearly labeled in the subject line. The genealogy has slowed down during the past couple months and a little chat among the group lets us know that there are still members out there. It helps us keep in touch. If you want to restrict future "chat" messages, we can discuss it. Anyone with thoughts on this can email me. Happy 1999!!! Twila Veysey Listowner

    2. Don't forget me Sallye, We didn't have 80 degrees but we had mid 60's and that was perfect for a power walk without getting heat stroke. I'm up here in Sebastopol 60 miles north of San Francisco. Deanna

    2. John On Joel & Mary' s marriage, it only indicates she was a widow. In looking at CLERMONT MARRIAGES 1800-1850 I found the following....but can't say it is Mary's husband...only a guess Mark Whitaker to Mary Prickett Dec 17, 1816 by James Wood, JP According to the cemetery records, Mary was born in 1801. She would have been pretty young to marry, but then they did in those days. Unfortunately, these records in the books, don't indicate too much, and this book particularly, only gave marriages. When Mary married Joel in 1851, she was 50 years old. If she married the 1st time at 15-16, then we have the right one. This is purely a guess. I did check in Cemetery records and found no burial for Mark Whitaker. Sallye

    3. Sallye: Good catch! I did have Joel married a third time to a Mary H Whitaker, but I had assumed incorrectly that Whitaker was Mary H's maiden name. Obviously, she married someone by the name of Whitaker previously. Do the marriage records you have show what Mr. Whitaker's first name was and what her maiden name was? John Charles Tippet JohnDoeTippet@csi.com P.S. I have already annotated my web page to show that Mary H. was Joel's 3rd wife. ---------- > From: SalGundy@aol.com > To: BEHYMER-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: Re: Mary H Behymer > Date: Friday, January 01, 1999 5:52 PM > > John > I decided to look this up in the Clermont Co OH marriages and this is > what I found. > > Joel Behymer was married 3 times. > > CLERMONT CO, OH MARRIAGES 1850-1874 > 3rd marriage. > Mary Whitaker, age 50, wid, married Joel Behymer age 62, wid, > June 3, 1851 by M.
