    3. Eva, Peggy & All, This John BEDSAUL was mine. Here's a quote from John Perry Alderman's book, The Settlements(of Carroll County, VA) : JOHN BEDSAUL The first known record of John is his marriage on Jun 9, 1774 to Sarah Brown, as found in the Cane Creek minutes (1 Hinshaw 374); the bride was the daughter of Daniel and Grace Brown of Guilford County, NC, and she was dismissed from the Quaker Chruch in 1775 for some reason not stated in the Cane Creek records. Through the Loyal Company, John acquired the rights to 187 acres on Chestnut Creek (kegley, Adventurers, I, p. 34) and he had it surveyed Dec 30, 1774 (Fincastle, Survey A-131). The land was near his fathre's first settlement, towards Iron Ridge. John eventually sold his rights to Benjamin Hartgrove and finally Matthew Dickey took the grant. Later it became a part of the Blair farm. John moved to part of his father's farm and apparently lived there until 1799 when he was dropped from the Grayson tax rolls. The tract upon which John lived was the same tract which old Elisha deeded to John's son, the younger Elisha, in 1803 for the deed refers to it as the tract where John resided "when he moved out of the country" (Grayson, D.B. 1-530). By 1808 John was residing in Buncombe County, N.C., and there is no further mention of him in the Grayson records (Grayson, D.B. 2-419). Earlier there were a few records of John in the Grayson minues. In 1793 he was charged with an illegal dalliance with a Blevins girl who lived on Chestnut Creek, and in 1794 he was made surveyor of the road in place of his brother-in-law George martin (Grayson, Orders 1793-1794). Although I haven't any knowledge of how the BEDSOLES of Bladen County connect, I think the Quaker connection will be an important factor, and there was a Quaker settlement in Bladen County, NC where the BEDSOLES later lived. I have ordered Hinshaw's Quaker Volumes on cd for a part of my Christmas gift (a great way to have more resources! :) I am hoping that they will bring some information to light regarding these Bedsoles and Bedsauls.
