I guess since I started this I should get this thing rolling. Wanted to pass along the newest Bedsole that I recently discovered by accident William James Bedsole born in Sampson County North Carolina about 1849 Mother: Nancy (Polly) Bedsole (Robert, Thomas Sr.) Father Unknown. All census report William as being of mixed heritage. I suspect that his father was Native American as he championed the cause of Native American's in Sampson County as an adult. Nancy also had another child, Eliza born about 1845. Father also unknown. Listed as "white" on all census. Given the fact that both of Nancy's children ran under the name Bedsole she obviously was not married to their father(s). If he was in fact Native American the laws would have prohibited a marriage. Any one know anything about them? The information came from a booklet called "The Classified Indians of Sampson County, North Carolina.
