Jean, Charlotte English was the wife of Thomas Bedsole Jr. Rebecca Jones was the wife of Thomas Bedsole Sr., as noted in my earlier email. Rebecca Jones was the mother of Thomas Jr. Now, with regard to Tatum Bedsole , or anyone else saying with certainty that Thomas Bedsole Sr. is from ANY country is grossly UNPROVEN to say the least. On that subject, I am the one who not only wants proof, but in the absence of proof, I consider any such allegation just another allegation. We lived near Tatum Bedsole for many years and he was our mailman. I spent many days with him myself and he is the reason I became so interested in the Bedsole ancestors. I can say that I have researched Bedsole's for 50 years. I had always been told that Thomas Sr. came from Germany as Tomaz Betzold. But after I got a computer and found other people so interested in our ancestors, most of them said he was from Ireland, or England depending on who was telling it. So in 1993 and again in 1994, I went to England, Ireland and Germany. I looked in phone books, and land records, I talked to anybody and everybody but I never found any Bedsole, or Bledsoe. In Germany, I found tons of Betzold's, which sounds like Bedsole in the german language. They knew nothing about what I wanted to know. I did find this much out about Bedsole: I did not have the information NECESSARY to find out anything about him, no birth information on Thomas Sr., no parents names, no sibling names, no addresses, (except here), no ship names, owners, registration, shipping date, port of departure, port of arrival, name of THAT ship, date of arrival, country(s) ship arrived at, or from, accompanying relatives, and etc.etc. In addition, many records were destroyed in England and Germany in WW II, leaving gaping holes where no information existed, if it ever did. I did get a certificate from England that certifies that the name Bedsole originated in Prussia before that became Germany. So, in the end, I would like to issue this statement to any and all Bedsole researchers: If ANYONE finds out and documents the fact that Thomas Bedsole Sr., or any of HIS ancestors came from ANY country outside the U.S., I will owe that person a big RC and moon pie, for that person is one whale of a lot smarter than me and in fact, would make me look like a total idiot, considering how much time, effort and money I have spent trying to find that out myself. I also know for certain that Tatum Bedsole never knew where they came from in truth and with proof. I also know that the statement made in the small book "Mitcham War Of Clarke County" that Edward Bedsole was of Irish descent was made with a callous disregard of the truth and was in fact made from what the author had been told by a local yokel. Now, with all that in mind and with the knowledge that all Bedsole "Experts" will vehemently deny that there were any Bedsole's before Thomas Sr., Peggy Bedsole and myself, have found a William, John and Vincent , all living around Beaverdam, NC where Thomas Sr. is first noted, and that all three of these guys are older than Thomas Sr. After much looking, we feel that all three are brothers of Thomas Sr. I believe very strongly that John Bedsole may have been Thomas Sr.'s dad, in fact....JD Bedsole
