    1. Re: Dr. Robert N. Bedsole Sr.
    2. Peggy, I don't know for sure, but that Dr. Robert N. Bedsole POSSIBLY be Robert Neal Bedsole, son of Willis Bedsole and Euphamey Mooneyham of Kinston, Ala. His line would be : Thomas Sr., Thomas Jr., Travis B., William Henry, Willis. This Willis use to be a mechanic. My own dad was named after that William Henry and we lived in Kinston for many moons and I met Willis one time when I was about 10. I have a picture of him. Also, several men under that William Henry, for some reason, went on to become doctors. One is in Pell City, Ala., two are in Birmingham and two are in Mobile, or were 10 years ago. I am guessing at this Robert Neal Bedsole....JD

    1. BEDSON??
    2. Jean Mayfield Cuevas
    3. Hi All, I received the Hinshaw's Encyclopedia of Quaker Genealogy for Christmas, but it's confusing as anything and will take a while to learn how to navigate! But, I did come across a name which may (or may not) be a confusion of the BEDSOLE/BEDSAUL name: BEDSON, Mary d. 10-12-1763 Thomas, burried 11-17-1732 s Samuel, d. ae about 10 y This came from the Philadelphia Quaker Monthly Meeting. My mother's aunt by marriage is up in her upper 80's with a clear mind, and she always said that her family (she was a granddaughter of Hale Franklin BLEDSOE, John Lowry BEDSAUL'S youngest son) told her that they were "Pennsylvania Dutch", which must mean that they came along with Wm Penn's colony of Germans who settled in PA. However, some mention of Burlington, NJ is listed as also a possibility. Does anyone on this list have a PA or NJ connection? Thanks, Jean Cuevas

    1. Re: BEDSON??
    2. Jean, very interesting thing you reported. I have been called the following (plus a few I won't mention) and received mail as: Bledsoe, Bedsloe, Bedsaul, Badso, Batson, and Bedson, etc., etc. But, to get to the main question about anyone have a connection to NJ. YES. Peggy and I have come across some things , primarily about the Quaker Church, reflecting John Bedsole living in NJ, where he was affiliated with the church. He later moved to NC (best guess 1740) and lived among a Quaker settlement. Then he moved to Chestnut Creek, Va. where he lived with and among Elisha Bedsaul, with Elisha "adopting" him, and he changed his name to Bedsaul, then he moved back to NC and became Bedsole again. Then he apparently traveled back and forth from Va. to NC. Keep in mind that none of these people back then apparently knew how to read or write ( they signed with an X and was witnessed that was his, or her, "Mark") Anyway, John was POSSIBLY born about 1720-30. As you know, we have also come across a William and a Vincent Bedsole, living in the same area as Thomas Sr. Well, Peggy and I have worked long and hard on trying to prove relationships between Thomas Sr., William, Vincent and that John. We have believed from the start that they were all 4 brothers, but never able to PROVE it. It is my very strong intuition that John is the dad of Thomas Sr. Anyway, a new face has appeared on the scene in the form of a Kyle Bedsole ( Thomas Sr., Thomas Jr., Duncan, Larkin, Amos Jessup, William Ottis, Carlton Thomas). Kyle lives in Cumberland County, NC. In his first email to me, without any contact before about it, he says that all the old folks there have always told him that Thomas Sr. was one of four brothers !!!. Well, I am excited and asked him to see if he can find out any details AT ALL and let me know. Now, to get back to the burning question about the NJ connection. YES, there is absolutely a connection through John. Its hard to know when you are talking about one John and not another in this crowd. In the Bedsaul crowd, there are AT LEAST 8 Elisha's. But , in any event, there is a connection and now , when you say Pennsylvania Dutch, I can suddenly see the possibility that THAT is where the story came from about the Bedsole's being from Germany, but I have always been the only one around claiming that. As I told you before, I went to England, Ireland and Germany TWICE and only in Germany are there PLENTY of Bedsole's. They are spelled Betzold but pronounced Bedsole. Jean, I think you may have come up with a vital area which may help solve this question of Bedsole origin AND the Bedsole/Bedsaul relationship. Now all we have to do is look some more.....Thank you. I think we all owe you a big RC and a moon pie.......JD Bedsole

    3. Hi All, Well okay, then I will leave Edward O's kids as posted! Should have known after reading about his group in "Mitcham War" . Perseverance was a genetic trait. Eva, please accept out belated condolences for the passing of your uncle. So thrilled to hear you found another Bedsole way out on the West Coast. Looking forward to hearing the info on the family. Gosh there are so many more of us out there than Bob and I ever imagined when we got started. At Christmas we printed down our most current genealogy report for the kids and Bob's brother Phil with the promise of updates on a regular basis. It was the quietest moments we had when each got their book and began reading. Thrilled me of course to see their interest. Bob and I wish for all you a wonderful New Year! Best Wishes Peggy

    3. Hello Gang, I spoke with a Bedsole this weekend here in California, a man named Robert B. Bedsole, born 8 Nov 1925 in Atlanta, GA. He didn't know anything about his genealogy, other than his parents names; Ellis Spencer Bedsole Sr (who died in 1975) & Emma Lucille Barnes - m 1918 in GA. Ellis is the son of Edward Oakly (Ned) SR and Roxanna (Roxie) Ott; son of Edward & Susan Blackburn; etc. He was glad when I told him that with his father's name I could give him his genealogy back for a number of generations. How wonderful that the Bedsole's are coming together to share with all descendents our common history. He said it was an amazing Christmas present. Robert never married but has 1 brother with kids; Ellis Spencer JR, born 7 June 1929/30 (he couldn't remember exactly) and died when he was 77. Children are Jim, Roger, Barry, Lisa, & another girl. I'll be contacting Lisa, who also lives here in California, over the next few days and hopefully have more info to add. By the way, my uncle, Harold J Bedsole, b 7 May 1921, died this past August (1999). His parents (my grandparents) are William Travis Bedsole & Eva Hicks. William Travis is the eldest child of Edward D (Edwin) Bedsole & Sarah Jane Russell. Edward is the son of Travis B Bedsole & Rosalie P Ward. Travis is the youngest child of Thomas Bedsole JR & Charlotte (Lottie) English, etc. Bye for now cousins. Eva
