Hi All I just want to join in although my grandmother was born in Devon. She had 22 pregnancies, 16 live births 12 of whom lived to maturity. There was only one set of twins, one of whom died aged 18 months. The other three deaths were small babies. My mother, one of the younger members of the family, always referred to her eldest sister as "My sister,Miss Jones, is coming to stay", when talking to her friends. Grandmother died at the age of 54 having had her first child at the age of 19. She was a dressmaker and made a lot of their clothes herself. Mum said washing day was a full day with the copper boiler blazing most of the day. I always read all you pieces Gale! Best wishes Anne in Markyate researching MEAD, WRIGHT, STEVENS, HOBBS, WALKER, POTTON, GINGER, GOODWIN, HOPKINS, BONE AND FLITTON to mention a few!!
