Hi Allan, I have had the same happen in my research only it was with a death. On my ancestors death instead of her name Thomasine being entered in the register, the name of her husband William was entered. Unfortunately because the error had been made at the time of her death and William instead of Thomasine had been inadvertently entered on the death record nothing can be done as there is no documentary evidence. It sounds like the problem that you have is a similar mistake.
