Sue, Without dates or locations it's a bit difficult. The only Ephraim that I found born 1844 looks to be the illegitimate son of Mary Underwood. You should be able to trace some information through UK Censuses, but seeing you are in Australia, it's possible that he migrated around age 21 in 1865. You could look at Family Trees at www.rootsweb.com . There are some Underwood submissions under Bedfordshire and two for Pulloxhill. But they are much earlier.
