    3. Dear Peter, Thankyou for your comments. The Charlotte SAWFORD of Knotting was born 1807. This would make her 34 years younger than William COX based on his age in 1851. The first question is :- Are you sure you have the correct marriage ? I don't suppose I am 100% sure. William's Charlotte was known as "Tofford" (IGI) , "Saufoot" (A daughter's birth certificate) and "Sawfoot" or "Sawford" (a son's birth certificate)......... this last's writing is unclear. Charlotte's death certificate puts her at 42 years of age in May 1843 and states she is the wife of William Cox, Labourer. As far as I can tell she had produced 8 children 7 of whom reached adulthood and produced families of their own (with plenty of Williams but no Charlottes). I'm not sure if the 1807 date is birth or christening. The 1841 census has William's age at 60 or 68 and Charlotte's at 30. The next person on this census is George (15 years) who according to the IGI (as above) is child of a William and Charlotte (Tofford). By 1851 Charlotte was dead and William was 78 and living with 2 of his children aged 15 and 12. I have ordered a possible death cert for him from GRO If you get Charlotte's parents, you can use them for a parent search on IGI to find her brothers and sisters. I have the 1807 Knotting Charlotte's parents, brother and sisters but no marriage partners as yet. Strangely enough one sister is an Elizabeth. This branch of my family seldom repeats names ............ quite unlike other branches. I would suggest that Elizabeth is a wife of a brother to Charlotte. You might be able to find them in an earlier census or pick up their marriage on IGI or FreeBMD. Similarly, you should be able to find Mary DANIELS in 1871 Census with parents or her birth on FreeBMD. I would also suggest a check of Surname Message Boards and Family Trees at Rootsweb. Thankyou for these suggestions. I think I shall start with RootsChat. Pat
