The list also says that these men were willing to attend as drivers for the teams [i.e. the waggons & carts] that would have been requisitioned by the Army if France had of invaded... I suspect SANFORD jr worked for William MAXEY as he drew up the list...and probably owned the cottage they lived in... So 'SANFORD' is another name to add to your list of variations? Let me know what you think? cathy Ps: Not all men were "willing" to defend England against the French ...there are some remarks on the lists like 'refused but I put his name down anyway'. I can see these blokes saying 'not bloody likely'....
