I am hoping to find out more about the above lady who is one of my ancestors. I know that she married in 1825 at St Botolph Cambridge to John Richardson who was a butcher. The marriage record shows that her father was John Carter, a tailor. That is all I know of her history. I think I have found everything I can re her life after the marriage. Whether she spent her early life in Potton or not I do not know so I'm hoping that the name and place may ring a bell with someone on the list. Thanks in advance if anyone can help. Best wishes from Gail.
Hi Gail, Looked on Potton parish registers, but couldn't see your Louisa's baptism. The only one around that time with a father called John was a Lucy, baptised 1806. All the other Carter baptisms for that time had a father William. If her mother "went home to mum" to have the baby, she would probably have been baptised there. Gail, what does it say as her birthplace on the 1841, 1851, 1861, etc censuses? Her Pleasance given name may be a clue to an ancestors name too. D. Hi Gail, Have looked on the Bedfordshire Prime (list of names on parish registers) and there are no Pleasances in Bedfordshire records. There are Pleasantines and similar names in Potton, but not Pleasance. census returns all give Potton Beds as the birthplace. When John Richardson died in 1843 Louisa went on to marry again and moved around a fair bit but as I say I know nothing of her ancestry.
