    3. Hi listers all... Am trying to trace the parentage of one "William Hide", Spouse of Elizabeth Newman, who married 12 Apr 1803 in Houghton Regis. 1851 census cites William as being born abt 1781 in "Old Warden, Herts".....With 1841 stating residence in Houghton and born "Out of County". However, the closest IGI match I can find for him is a Christening in "Biggleswade, Beds" in 1786...being the seventh child of Richard Hide and Elizabeth Chamberlain. Now from my days at RAF Henlow in the 70's, I recall Old Warden and Biggleswade being fairly Adjacent, but is Old Warden actually (or was it at the time) Beds or Herts ??. And would Old Warden events have been recorded at Biggleswade ? If anyone has access to records or perhaps personal links that could confirm or rule out my hypothesis, would love to hear from you. Best Regards Jerry Sandford

    3. Hello Jeremy, Old Warden was "always" BDF. It was an "Ancient Parish" and in Wixamtree Hundred - and from the introduction of Poor Law Unions, was in Biggleswade Union. Biggleswade was also an "Ancient Parish" of BDF - and in 'it's own' Hundred. Both Houghton Conquest and Houghton Regis were each further "Ancient Parishes" of BDF - Conquest in Redbourne Hundred / Ampthill PLU; Regis in Manshead Hundred / Luton PLU. You don't give an exact date for the William baptised in Biggleswade in 1786. I can't tell if that was all that was shown, but if it was, then it sounds like a "Patron Submission" and thus quite possibly an unsupported guess. A further point is that in the 1851 Census his age was evidently stated as "70" - a suspiciously round number, and which could have been a guess by the Enumerator. [I accept that there's a 1 in 10 chance of his ACTUALLY being 70 - but I'd not want to rely on odds of that nature :-) HTH Gus ----- Original Message ----- From: "Sandford Jeremy-jsandfo1" <Jerry.Sandford@motorola.com> To: <BEDFORD-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, May 11, 2006 2:14 PM Subject: [BDF] RE: Old Warden...Beds or Herts ? 3. Hi Jerry There are no Hides in Old Warden at that period per the PR transcript, and I'm afraid I don't buy the Biggleswade William theory. The ages of 60 and 71 in the censuses both point to 1780+/-. There was also a William Hide buried in Biggleswade in 1792 but there's no age quoted so reference to the PR would be necessary to see if there are any further details eg son of Richard and Elizabeth. What puzzles me is the Herts county birthplace in 1851 and Not born in Beds in 1841. What if...Herts is correct and Old Warden is a misenumeration? Could it conceivably have been Kings Walden for example - was there part of the parish that was known as Old Walden? (I don't know Herts). Kings Walden has the advantage of being much closer to Houghton Regis than Old Warden. The problem is that whilst Kings Walden has been extracted onto the IGI there's no William Hide! But it's an alternative hypothesis. Regards David Sandford Jeremy-jsandfo1 <Jerry.Sandford@motorola.com> a écrit : Hi listers all...
