My Page family was from Shillington, Bedfordshire. In 1870 they were sponsored by an emigration society in London to go to Canada. On the ship's list I copied from microfilm, there were a list of several families from Bedforshire. I am wondering if there is anyone on this list who may have had family go to Canada also. I am trying to locate records from the society that sent them. Lila George --------------------------------- What are the most popular cars? Find out at Yahoo! Autos
Hi Lila, sorry I can't be of help - but a thought. Perhaps contacting the National Archive would be helpful - they do have an online site. It might make sense that they may hold records of various societies -or at least know the names of those involved in emigration activities. Good Luck. Lila My great great aunt Susan Webb who married George Odell emigrated to Canada in 1870. The family came from Tingrith and were sponsored by the Trevor family who owned Tingrith Manor. Susan her husband and 8 children sailed from Liverpool on a ship called the "Austrian" on 14 April 1870 and landed in Quebec. The family settled in Ontario. Travelling with the family were George's parents and other relations. Could this be the ship which carried the Page family ? Hi Richard, My Page's left Liverpool on April 19, 1870 on the "European" and landed in Quebec on May 5. They were sponsored by Mrs. Hobart's Emigration Fund. They first went to Almonte Village in Ontario, then on to Gananoque and finally to Alexandria Bay New York. Where is Tingrith? Is it in Bedfordshire?
