G/Day I am new to this list and I am researching my DARNELL family, My G G Grandfather Samuel DARNELL was in the 56th Regiment of foot stationed at the barracks Elton Lancashire in 1845 where his wife gave birth to a son William DARNELL William had an older brother Joseph born in Kilkenny Ireland 1844 where the Regiment was stationed at the time the mother was Irish so I suspect they were married there, in 1846 the regiment was posted to Gibraltar then in 1851 to Bermuda where a girl Mary Ann was born after their return to GB I lose them about 1856 the mother dies and Samuel remarries to a second Irish girl leaves the army and goes to live in Potton Beds and is found on the 1861 census there the census says Samuel was born in Wrestlingworth Beds about 1813. William DARNELL married in 1871 in London he was my G Grandfather Is it possible to get a copy of his baptism record. Are there any Darnells still in the area? Any help would be appreciated regards Keith
There are a few other children to Joseph and Charlotte born in Wrestlingworth. If you enter this batch number and the name Darnell P003271 on the ww.familysearch.org site you will find them. I have also found a James Darnell in the 1841 census for Wrestlingworth age 30 with a wife Susan. 25 It is possible also that there is a William 20 and Sarah 25 Darnell in the house next door.. but the writing is a bit ifffyy. Having looked at the IGI there is no other spelling in the town that looks similar so I would say it is Darnell Regards Gay ----- Original Message ----- From: "Keith Darnell" <darnell@dodo.com.au> To: <BEDFORD-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, April 24, 2006 7:15 AM Subject: [BDF] Darnell's > G/Day I am new to this list and I am researching my DARNELL family, > My G G Grandfather Samuel DARNELL was in the 56th Regiment of foot > stationed at the barracks Elton Lancashire in 1845 where his wife gave > birth to a son William DARNELL William had an older brother Joseph born in > Kilkenny Ireland 1844 where the Regiment was stationed at the time the > mother was Irish so I suspect they were married there, in 1846 the > regiment was posted to Gibraltar then in 1851 to Bermuda where a girl Mary > Ann was born after their return to GB I lose them about 1856 the mother > dies and Samuel remarries to a second Irish girl leaves the army and goes > to live in Potton Beds and is found on the 1861 census there the census > says Samuel was born in Wrestlingworth Beds about 1813. > William DARNELL married in 1871 in London he was my G Grandfather > Is it possible to get a copy of his baptism record. > Are there any Darnells still in the area? > Any help would be appreciated regards Keith
