Hi cathy I'm afraid I proved to myself how hopeless I am at this business, tried the National Archives and got completely lost, just didn't know which way to turn. That he was in the East Yorkshire Rifles is merely an assumption on the part of a family member, and I think I heard somewhere that they are the "Volunteers" so presume that would mean having to include that word in his regiment. But of course it was to no avail because I couldn't even find the Yorkshire Rifles anyway. Guess I'm just too old for all this technical stuff.
