Have recently subscribed to this list in hopes of finding more about Richard UPTON of Ampthill (born abt 1794) On the Bedfordshire Surnames list, I found that Hugh Pitfield has an interest in UPTONs of Flitwick, which I believe is only a stones throw from Ampthill. However, my e-mail to Hugh was returned with fatal error. If anyone has an up-to-date address for him, or indeed, if you are subscribed to this list Hugh, I would be very grateful to be able to get in touch. Also, if anyone has info on UPTONs in the area, I would be glad to swap info. many thanks, Jan White (Glastonbury, Somerset)
Jan, My ancestors came from the same area, but the only Upton I have is the 1838 marriage of Sarah Upton to William Adams. And that's not much help, as it looks to be a second marriage for Sarah, so I'm not sure if Upton was here maiden name. I checked IGI, and while there were three Richard Upton born around the time, none was born exactly in 1794. There was also an earlier marriage in 1786 of a Richard and Sarah, but using a parent search I could find no children. I'd suggest you post some specific detail of what you know and see what the good people on the list can help with. They're a pretty clever lot. Peter in Sydney.
Hello Peter, Many thanks for your response. I will, as you advised, post details of the family I am searching for... I am seeking further info on the UPTON family of Ampthill - Richard UPTON born about 1794 and his parents whom I believe were John and Julia. I know Richard had moved to Middlesex before 1836 when he married, but I know nothing of his siblings, or parents origins. I would be very grateful to hear from anyone who can help with this family.
