Hi Betty, I only have one DUDLEY appearing in my records - Eliza Dudley b Haynes (also known as Hawnes) c 1862. This is not very far from Marston and Lidlington and the date not too dissimilar to the probable birth of your James - so it may be worth a search of the Haynes [Hawnes] records and I do know from another branch of my tree that came from Haynes that they used the Wesleyan church in Ampthill. Hope these leads may help. Remember baptism in church (or otherwise) was not compulsory and (from the Religious census of 1851) only about a third or so of the population actually attended any place of worship. In Beds, Methodism was strong, so was Baptist membership, in some places a lot stronger than the Church of England.
