Hi list, I am looking for the baptism of Robert Parrill / Parroll / Parrell in Bedfordshire. I have his burial record in 1657 in Marstone Mortaine, but I cannot find his baptism. I wondered if someone might be able to check for me if they have the baptism cd. Thank you for any help you might be able to give. Kind regards Jacqueline
Unfortunately Marston Moretaine parish register/bishops transcripts only start at 1602. As Robert baptised a child in Marston in 1618 there's every chance that his baptism predates 1602, so there won't be a record. Hi Jacqueline, I've had a quick look through the baptisms at Marston Mortaine on the Parish records fiche I have and I think I mught have found Robert Perrill baptism. There's a baptism on 7th January 1620/21 of Robert son of Robert Perritt, no other Robert Peritts turn up but Robert Perrill the elder had at least 2 more children baptised in that era. John on 19th April 1618, and Richard on 6th March 1624/5. But if it's the elder Robert's baptism your looking for I could see any prior to 1618. Hope this hasn't confused the issue, but by the looks of the fiche the earlier pages of the parish records were in a poor state when transcribe - several years only have vague names and dates included. Hello Jacqueline, I don't have any BDF Registers, but I've been following the thread.... And I'm wondering just which of the Roberts you have the burial for. Presumably there's no indication in the record that gives you any clue as to his identity beyond a bald statement in the Marston Mortaine register that "Robert P... was buried on XX Xxx 1657". The initial presumption - in the absence of any other entries from the register - is that he was an adult male. Does the Register give father's names for 'infant' burials? If it doesn't, then he could've been of any age between 0 and 90+ :-( >From the baptisms you've received, it'd appear that there were at least 2 of them in the parish - and adult, too - around 1620, as "Robert the elder" was recorded as baptising another Robert. The missing "Robert the younger" is (probably) not the elder's son, unless the elder was awkward-enough to give two of his children the same name (perhaps possible if the 1620 one was by a second wife). But the absence of any 'elder' or 'younger' from the 1657 burial implies that by then there was only one in the parish - although *which* one remains an open question. Is there another burial before 1657? [Of course there's also the problem of the period of The Commonwealth (broadly 1648-1660) when the use of Church Registers was actively discouraged - ignoring the period of the Civil War from 1642, when many "just died" as a by-product - so it's anybody's guess just how many Roberts might've died in those roughly 18 years...] You're unlikely to be able to get even any semi-solid evidence of the identity of the one buried in 1657..... Sorry to sound Negative, but in all honesty you'll need to have a load of ???s on your Tree.
