Jan, I realise that your original email was simply to find a current email address of a previous submitter, that it's not your family, and you have only just started to help a friend. But David is quite right. In order to try and help, he's had to go and research readily available information, that you should have been able to provide. However, don't get him wrong. He is one of the most helpful people on the list. I share his frustration with getting people to provide sufficient information. As for Richard Upton, it looks like he fits the 1799 christening at Ampthill. There doesn't seem to be a marriage or other children to parents John and Julia. Perhaps somebody could check Ampthill PR's. He is a clerk with East India Company. His first marriage seems to have been about 1823, as he has three children 15 and above by 1841 census. He has a 4th child and possible others who died with his first wife before her death between 1827-1836. He then marries Isabella Murray of Scotland in 1836. Unfortunately Pallots doesn't indicate where. They have three children before 1841 and three more before 1851. One also dies. You indicate Richard dies around 1855. Where you go from here depends on how much you want to do for your friend. There are hundreds of Upton records on Dunstable batches. Often you can get results by sorting them into families and eras. But it's a big job. I couldn't see any Upton's from Ampthill in submitted family trees at Rootsweb, but there may be data and family researchers on other sites. You could also try a few keyword searches at Google. If you're really keen, you might search for records of the East India Company. Good luck with assisting your friend. Peter in Sydney
Thank you Peter. Actually it is my family. The said Richard UPTON is my 3x great grandfather, but yes, I have just started to attempt to further family information given to me long ago. Certainly my plan is to search East India Co records when I can next make it to London, but in the mean time follow up some of the ideas/leads suggested by posters on this list, and search PRs. Many thanks for all your help, and everyone else who replied.
