    1. Re: [BDF] Elliott Family - Bushmead/Duloe/Eaton Socon
    2. David
    3. I've been working with John on this Elliott family, but he's a bit distracted at the moment having become a grandfather earlier today. We think that his Mary Elliott/Ellet is the one baptised on 3 March 1811 at Eaton Socon, daughter of William and Mary. This is an IGI entry extracted from the parish register so is reliable. Unfortunately an LDS member has hijacked this baptism, changed the father to John, and married Mary off to John Rench at Gt Staughton. I don't think there's much doubt that Mary, daughter of John and Jemima, married John Rench, but she wasn't baptised on 3 March 1811. Apart from Lydia's baptism at Colmworth in 1832 (extracted entry) the IGI also has a member submission for the baptism of Ann Elliott, daughter of John, at Colmworth on 23 March 1845, birth about 1818. The only Ann I can see baptised on this date at Colmworth was Ann Herbert, but no parents were mentioned, nor was there an age giving an implied birth of 1818. However I see that an Ann Elliott, father John, married Joseph Herbert in 1839 at Colmworth so the baptism may have been a post marriage, very late, one. Is this the Ann who married Robert Case? Seems odd if so, as Robert appears to have married an Ann Elliot, not Herbert, who was a servant in his household in 1851. Mysterious, particularly as I can't find the Herberts in 1851! When you say the children were baptised in bulk are you referring to the children of John and Jemima, as I can't find their baptisms at all (apart from Lydia and possibly Ann as very late ones)? I believe that John and Jemima were the John Ellard and Jemima Gray married at Eaton Socon on 15 Sept 1806, and that Jemima Gray was baptised at Colmworth on 4 March 1787 at Colmworth, daughter of John and Lydia (probably explaining where the name Lydia came from with the Elliotts/Cases). Ages over 15 in 1841 were rounded down to the nearest 5 below (or should have been!); they were not rounded up. Baptism entries do not have details of godparents. Life would be much easier if they did! 1. Re: [BDF] Elliott Family - Bushmead/Duloe/Eaton Socon
    2. Janice Peasnell
    3. Hello David, Thank you for replying, John will now find himself rather distracted for a while. I have recently retired and now have more time to spend researching my family in depth. I visited Eaton Socon in June this year and was lucky enough to find the very informative books published by ESCAN, several of them mentioned members of the Elliott and Case families. Up until then I only had information on Ann and Mary. My G/G/Grandmother was the Ann Elliott who married Robert Case and she was his housekeeper before they married. I do not know if she was married before they married there is certainly no evidence of it from this end. (We did know she had been his housekeeper). I think I will just leave the Mary Elliott - John Wrench from Great Staughton as is, except of the Christening information. They were certainly the parents of Thomas and Jacob Wrench that came to Australia and they were both the nephews of Ann Elliott/Case All of the information I have regarding Ann Elliott shows her coming from Bushmead. I realise that Bushmead is close to Colmworth but until very recently Colmworth hadn't been mentioned. No, I have no information on John and Jemima's children having been christened in bulk but Mary and John WRENCH's children were, Thomas, Mary Ann and William on 19/5/1839, George and Sophia on 6/8/1843, Eliza and Joel on 7/5/1854. It would seem that the parents of Ann and Mary could have (I hope so) been John Ellard and Jemima Gray. Are the parish records of Colmworth available? do they go back very far? Are these records being looked at by the ESCAN group, they are doing such a wonderful job in the Eaton Socon area. Thank you again for answering my request, Kind regards Jan Peasnell/Melbourne/Oz On Fri, Aug 22, 2008 at 2:44 AM, David <[email protected]> wrote: > I've been working with John on this Elliott family, but he's a bit > distracted at the moment having become a grandfather earlier today. > > We think that his Mary Elliott/Ellet is the one baptised on 3 March 1811 at > Eaton Socon, daughter of William and Mary.
